Hamblen Township is in the northeast corner of Brown County (towns
Gatesville and Spearsville) which is north of Jackson County. Brownstown is
in BROWNS Twp. The Jackson County Townships listed on my map are SALT
CREEK, PERSHING, REDDING, HAMILTON, JACKSON, WASHINGTON, BROWNS, OWEN, CARR,
DRIFTWOOD, and GRASSY FORK.

Is there anyone on the list with access to the full 1880 census for Jackson
Co.? I'm trying to find info on my ggrandmother, born in 1875 Medora, IN.
She would've been 4-5 years old at the time, her name was Sarah Jane Canady
(poss. Newton?). I'm hoping they'll list the names in the household. Her
mother's name was Martha - could've been Newton, Johnson, Canady or Arthur.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated!

Hi Jackson Co Rooters!
I'm have been combing Indiana trying to find my CASIAH/KEZIAH/KIZIAH
family. If swear if I ever track them down I'm nailing their shoes to the
floor! I think they moved every time the rent came due.
However I found these Kiziah marriages in Jackson Co. and now I'm trying to
determine what years the Kiziahs were in Jackson Co and which of my
ggg-grandfather's brothers was father of these young people.
KIZIAH, JOHN m WILSON, ELIZA 11-24-1834 (are these the same fellow?)
KIZIAH,
>Tracy, try getting the map or list of the enumeration district. It will
show the relation ship and distance between farms, or in town, the
neigbhors. See who was living close by, had a chance to be a father, who
may not have been the same age as the fifteen year old mother. May be an
older man.<
Great idea! I also assume it was an older man, a very common thing back
then.

I research the CRIBBS, KREBS, CREPS, KRIBBS surnames.

Does this refer to a census or is there a map of land owners? I have
the certificates from the land office of 1838 land purchases in Jackson
County for Edward Crabb. This gives a description but is there a way to
find out where this is?
Thanks

Hi Tracy,
I was combing through next-door Washington Co. looking for a Kizziah
wedding and noted that - in the 'Quaker' list - there are *many* Canady
families. HAve you thought of looking there?

Hi Deborah. Seek and ye shall find !
1830 Census Index for Indiana.
CASIAH James Clay County pg 528
CASIAH Samuel Clay County pg 528
only ones listed.
There are no KIZIAH or KISIAH or KEZIAH
nor KESIAH listed.
My index does not shown age breakdown of household.
I have access to the 1860 census of Jackson Cty
but not the 1850.
There are none of any of these spellings listed in the
Jackson Cty every name census for 1870.

Hi Deb,
There is a Keziah, Matilda in Greene Co., Stafford Twp. in the 1850
census index. No other in 1850.
Will keep looking through indexes I have hear.

Hi, Deb,
Thanks, no I hadn't checked Washington Co. for Canady. I doubt I'll ever
solve this puzzle... birth records weren't kept in 1875 in Jackson Co.
(where my ggrandmother was born), and the mother was unwed, 15 years old, so
hard telling how they would've listed the father. My grandmother will be 88

Thanks Ken! Samuel was my GGG-Grandaddy and James his son. Sam died in
1843 but James disappears between 1840-50 too. So I'm trying to find
*him* somewhere/anywhere in 1850, along with my as yet unnamed
gg-grandfather.

Hello List,
I am hoping to get some suggestion for some of you on this stumper I
have been on for awhile now.
I am looking for information on Nehanky family. I have searched through
all the records possible for this family name as well as trying to come
up with other possible spellings to no avail.
I have a John Richey who married Caroline Nehanky June 7th 1868. John
Richey was born in Jackson Co., Grassy Twsp. abt. 1849. I have no other
info on Caroline Nehanky. Not even sure where they married at this

Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May
and were still smelling pretty good by June. However, they were starting to
smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the b.o.
Baths equaled a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the
privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the
women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water
was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the sayi

I am interested in my White and Winslow ancestors who migrated from
Perquimans Co., North Carolina, to Seymour, Indiana, before 1860. They were:
John Winslow (1819-1896) and his wife, Ann Jane White Winslow (1825-1867).
Their children were Benjamin 18, Lusana 13, Millicent 10, John, 7, and Uriah,
3. In the 1860 Census they were farming next to Ann Jane's father and his
wife, Benjamin White (1801-1865) and Sarah. The children living with them
were: Mary, 18, Christina, 16, Clasandra, 12, Benjamin, 18,
I have reason to believe my ggrandmother was illegitimate, born to Martha
NEWTON in 1875 (at age 15), and someone named KENNEDY. She named her child
Sarah Jane Melvina CANADY, but my grandmother (almost 88, living) suspects
her grandmother couldn't spell KENNEDY, since there were no CANADYs living
in the area at the time, but two KENNEDY families. Anybody have a shady
spot in their KENNEDY tree, possibly a missing child? Ggrandma grew up in
Medora, and an older relative once told my grandmother not to wo
Hi Deborra,
I have ancestors who were in the Jackson Co from 1829 to around 1856. My
Grgrandfather left a wife somewhere in Ind with several Children and went to
Susanville Ca abt 1860? and mar my GRgrandmother there when she was 16 and
he was 34. He just left 1st wife and never told where he was or went back.
I have to prove the ones I found to maybe be his.
Now as to your's moving all the time . Some men up and said they were going
west and never returned leaving families and then remarried wit
Can anyone tell me if there is a Hamblen Township in Jackson Co.,
Indiana? If so where is it located? What township is Brownstown in? I
am researching the John Danford Family, they had a son born in Jackson

Hello List,
Would anyone happen to know of a Baptist Church in the area of Mt
Pleasant that was there in the late 1890's? Not sure if this Church is
still there or not, but would hope to locate possible church records.
