I am looking to find more information about where my STEIN and EFFINGER families came from. Where were Sebastian and Catherine before they were married? Did they come from another part of the U.S. or did they come from the Old County? Were did all their children go? Was the name STEIN also spelled STEEN or STINE?
Sebastian STEIN, was born on 3 January 1824 and died on 1 February 1908.
Sebastian married Catherine EFFINGER, on 1 October 1853 in Madison, Indiana. (Catherine EFFINGER was born on 25 December

Deb,
I don't know anything about the "Peter Hulse Cemetery" except it is in Jennings Co., IN and that one of my ancesters was said to have been buried there. I believe this cemetery was maybe located on the Peter Hulse farm.
I contacted the Jennings County Library via email (

James,
I just found your message. I am searching where my Purdum ancestors migrated to from Southern Ohio, in Brown County. Do you know anything more about your possible Catharine Purdum? I have a web page on Purdum and other lines.

Here is the answer that I got from Lori Ammerman, who is president of
the Jennings county genealogy (and who is responsible for most of the
records that we have online and in the library):
>Sorry. At this point the Jennings County Genealogical Society is dying
for lack of interest. I have been doing a once a year newsletter for the
few who've managed to make connections. The Jennings County Historical
Society will be creating a web page and maybe we can make a genealogical
connection there. I've just gott
Dear fellow researchers,
I have been gone from the list for some time due to several reasons, not the
least of which was switching providers. For those of you whom I have made
contacts with my new e-mail is jlopp@kscable.com .
Also, I am still maintaining the online cemetery lists for Coffee Creek
Baptist, Coffee Creek Christian and the Keith cemeteries at

I didn't have a lot of luck on the Huber family last night at the
library. Here's what I found:
There was no obituary for Elizabeth Huber in the North Vernon Sun or the
Vernon Banner. By the way, the listing at the library says that
Elizabeth is buried in St. Joseph's cemetery (not St. James) and that
Jno. Huber, civil war veteran, Co B, 82nd Ind Inf. is buried in St.
James cemetery.
I found an obituary for a George Huber (although this is probably not
yours) as follows in the Vernon Times Fri., Mar. 30,
Thank you so much for the time you've given to the Jennings County site. From the experience that I've had searching for my ancestors I would consider you one of the "most" helpful people I have been in contact with. Thanks to Denise for filling your position. I have been impressed with the genealogy information at the Jennings County Library while searching for my McClellan, Clerkin, and McCaslin ancestors and I have no doubt that Denise will do a great job.

Bye Terry,
I think I can safely speak for the group and say that we will all miss you. I
know that I will---You have really done a terrific job with the Jennings

Hello Denise,
I know you will be a super coordinator also, because you have always been so
helpful when I have contacted you about my relatives...Thanks for taking over.

Terry,
I have a feeling that the George that you mentioned is not related to me.
However, I am keeping the information; at a later time I may lay it all out
and maybe he is related in some way. The death of Mary Huber is George's
wife; they lived in Seymour. I thank you so much for all the time you put in
on this for me. I truly appreciate it. Have a great life! Enjoy!
Thanks again,
Carlene

I wanted to remind everyone to check the 100 Years Ago Today column.
I've been lax about sending the reminders the past few weeks. BUT, my
son's wedding is over and hopefully life will return to normal here now.
Go to http://www.northvernon.com/ and click on Local News on the side
menu. Then scroll down to the 100 Years Ago column. The one for this
week and last week's is online.
Happy Hunting,
Terry
Hello. Does anyone have access the 1860 (or 1870, for that matter) census to
find the household of Whitfield LETT (the name Whitfield gets spelled
everywhich way, naturally). I have Whitfield in every other census he was
alive for except these two.
I would really like to know exactly what is on the 1860 one.
Whitifield Lett lived in Marion & Montgomery townships in Jennings county. He
was a carpenter, who lived near Paris, IN.
Wife on the 1860 census should be Sarah J (Hunt)--They married 1856.

I am trying to locate additional information on an Elizabeth Huber who is
buried in St James Cemetery, across the street from St Joseph. Fr. Brown at
St Joseph has been extremely helpful to me hunting information on a George
Huber family who lived in the area. This Elizabeth Huber died Nov 23, 1883
at the age of about 85 years. Fr. Brown searched, but the church had no
additional information. Is there anyone who might give me some ideas about
where to go from here to see where she was born, any chi
Indianapolis is Marion Co. The whole county is Indianapolis. Muncie is in
Delaware Co. I believe The Indianapolis Star is still in business. I believe
Vice-President Dan Quayle's family owned the paper.
Thanks Jenny for pointing that out. I can't believe I forgot about
that--epecially after having Antoinette take so much time to type them
all in. Here is the direct link to the Jennings county newspapers
online:

We couldn't type in the 100 Years Ago columns from the current paper due
to copyright.

how can i pick up back issues of the 100 years ago- am interested in articles
about the eberts who probably came around 1890-John J and his family, and
John P, their wives were Flora and Catherine; later O,.J and Hazel Mae came
about 1919 but my interest is in the earlier families and when they started

wife is Martha Jane Eberts and we are in Florida....cdp
Hi Everyone:
First of all I would also like to thank Terry for all of her
help with my search in Southern Indiana. You will be surely
missed by all. Best wishes to you and your family.
I also have a George Huber in my files: My information
seems to match some of the queries.

Dear Terry,
I have been away for a while, as I posted earlier, but was surprised to see
your name gone from the Jennings County page.
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you SO much for your hard
work on this project. Not only have you obviously given hours and hours of
your time preparing materials that would not otherwise be available, but you
have done so with great grace. I know that I am not the only one to say
that your kindness and responsiveness have been a delight.
