1. RE: [InVigo] Where are deeds and wills? [1]
Hi Kathleen, I was told you could interloan film from Vigo library but I don't know about buying. I do know they have copies of early wills on film but you need to know a date of death to get started. I don't think they are indexed. They have sent me copies of anything I requested(if they have it) and the charges are for coping only. I don't know about other libraries but NEVER have I seen so much dedication from their staff. They bend over back wards to help you, Mary Ann in Kansas

The annex you mentioned southwest of the courthouse is on Oak St. Go south on 3rd St from the courthouse; just a block or two south of Poplar and turn right. It's on the left; can't miss it.

Lillian, My husbands G-grandmother is Nancy Gilman born in Sullivan. Which is Sullivan County. My daughter is doing some research, but has not gotten far. She is still waiting info. I am planning a trip this fall to T.H. I will try to remember to check on that obit. How have you tried to get it? Amy, Both are available at the Vigo County Library. However, since they are on microfilm, they can be difficult to access, especially the indexes. The library does have a nice research area , lots of other material, and inexpensive copy capabilities which are easy to use. The office of the county recorder are at a separate facility several (3-5) blocks from the courthouse. It is west of South Third Street. Jay Amy Munroe wrote: > > Trying to organize a research trip. 10. Re: [InVigo] BROWN CEMETERY [1]
The listing probably came from "Cemeteries Vigo County Indiana" a collection of 4 volumes by Virginia Wilhoite and Nelson Eddy; Wabash Valley Genealogical Society; published by Cook & McDowell Publications of Owensboro, Kentucky, 1980. These volumes consist of tombstone readings by the authors. The books are out of print. I have one of the volumes, Vol. II which covers the south most section of Vigo County and includes Brown Cemetery, but there is no history of Brown in the book. I don't know of a

Hi Amy, Post to the list who you are researching and the time frame. There are a lot of us researching Vigo Co. and we may be able to help. Mary Margaret or David at the library are your best bets. They can direct you to most everything. I was just there and about the only thing you can't walk away with is marriage and birth records. Stop by the clerks office and pick up request forms. They gave me a six week waiting period. You need quite a bit of information to get deeds. The library has maps that show
12. [InVigo] Millers in Vigo County circa 1880 [1]
I would like to contact anyone researching Millers in Vigo County that may have a connection or info on the John R. Miller family. John was born about 1826 in Illinois, probably Clark Co., and married Nancy. Nancy was born about 1828, also in Illinois. John and Nancy were married circa 1850 and were living in Clark Co., Illinois in 1850. John's mother Sophia was living in the same household at that time. She was a widow by 1850, age 49. John and Nancy had at least the following Miller children as lis

14. [InVigo] BROWN CEMETERY [1]
Online listing at (http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/9166/browncem.htm) for Brown Cemetery in Linton Twp. includes Nicholas GILMANS, age 54, d.10 Nov 1852. I don't have access to published cemetery listings for Vigo Co. but believe this may be my Nicholas GILMAN/GILLMAN, b. 1796/7 in OH(?). Am also trying to determine whether Nicholas's wife, Rhoda GILMAN, b. abt 1810 in OH(?) might also be buried in Brown Cemetery. I was not able to find an obit for Nicholas GILMAN(S) in Terre Haute newspapers.

16. [InVigo] Vandalism at Highland Lawn Cemetery [1]
Over Labor Day weekend, there was some vandalism at Highland Lawn Cemetery here in Terre Haute. It appears from the news stories that it was the big mausoleums that were targeted. Doors were stolen, perhaps to be sold as scrap metal. They showed a Jehu Lewis mausoleum on TV. I think you could call it more thievery than vandalism.

Mary Ann, I have had quite a difficult time accessing materials for Vigo and Parke County. Pretty much everything I ordered interlibrary was not available for loan. I sure was disappointed. I must say the folks at the library in Vigo Co. who assist with mailed requests are wonderful. I wish I could find old newspaper film to buy copies of! Kathleen
