For anyone who did not receive my previous message, I can look up death
certificates in Ohio for Dec 1908-1944. There are also some earlier records
for certain counties. The Ohio Historical Society has a great website at
www.ohiohistory.org. There is an index of deaths from 1913-1937. I can get
copies for $1 each if you know the dates of death. Email me for more
information at donkerduz@yahoo.com

Lee Co., in the most southeastern corner of the state along the Mississippi River, this is the place the first Norwegian emigrants settled in Iowa in 1838-1839. If anyone wants to debate this, ok, we can.
Among these settlers were a few of the "Sloopers" those, mostly of the Quaker faith, who brought the first ship across the ocean to NY in 1825.
If you have early Norwegian emigrants in your families history, check this out and see if they stopped by Lee Co.

The ones at Ancestry's "Images Online" ARE the actual pages. I've
used them several times, and even though they can be slow to
download, they have all the data you would find in a regular census.
I have a copy of the City of Tama 1895 census, and in that one they
just have the surname, given name, age, and sex. The city censuses
are more free form, I think, and didn't have to follow Federal or
state laws, etc., For example: I was looking through a microfilm for

Hi,
I can't find any listing for a post office by the name of Araco, nor
anything sounding similar. If your source for the town was handwritten, it
might be Avoca (which is in Pottawattamie County since 1869).

sketches of their town, villages, etc.".
It is a large book, altogether, and probably are all the volumes on

about 2 weeks here to get it in, and plan on several sessions of

Looking for information on Phoebe Ann Mansfield KENNISON.
She was born about 1843 in Brasher, St. Lawrence Co. NY and married Matthew

This is the last record we have of Phoebe. On 13 July 1864 Matthew was

The family names I am searching are: Clarkin, Clarken, Griffin, Keanealy,

Some of the Clarkin, Griffin and Keanealy families were still in contact with

I just found some of the people I am researching on an extract of the 1856 state census for Burlington. My husband's g-g-grandfather, Richard DEARLOVE, has an "X" in the column for "militia". What militia would they mean in 1856? There was no war on. Richard had only been in the U.S. since 1850, so it can't mean service in the Mexican War. Was there some sort of Iowa State Militia in 1856?
Many thanks!

Hi to All,
Searching for information on Bluford and Sarah (Casteel) Osburn. Married in Madison Co., IA on February 16, 1868. Sarah was born abt. 1853 and Bluford abt. 1850. I have found them both on a census for Madison Co. with only a mother listed - Sarah's mother as Lydia and Bluford mother as Rebecca. I beleive prior to that time Rebecca and Bluford were in Missouri.
Also found a OSBURN, B., November 03, 1909 listed in Woodland Cemetery (Polk Co) IA and a Sarah A. also buried there (November 6,
