Searching for any information on my Great Great Grandfather, Horace Beckwith probably born CT. Believe him to be buried in Iowa ? where. Wife Prudence Collins. She is buried Lincoln Cemetery, Black Hawk, IA, d. 25 Oct 1872 46y 8d of age. Heard from a descendant of Prudence's son Fremont and they say her maiden name was Collins and they had dates for her of 1830-1871. Headstone transcriptions say 1831, Lincoln Cemetery: Town: Lincoln, Lot 81, Relative: Wife of Horace. Horace is not buried there.

Didn't someone not so very long ago post information and email address for someone helpful in obtaining information on former residents of IVH in Marshalltown? At that time, didn't think I would need them, but, now find someone else does. Hope it was this list...

you have and I have also included some information on the importance of
your grandmothers and their lines.
Enter the web site at;

You will be looking for the page titled HOW MANY
Did the box say "play" something? I received one from someone I know and
still deleted it. Another one came in this morning - in the subject it said
"re:"
When I opened the e-mail, the "play" box came up again.
Trouble was, it immediately sent me into this. I did not open any
attachment.

You are so right Kaye. This list especially has some of the most generous
people. Any requests I have made have been replied to by several kind
souls.
(And I hope no one thought that I was ungrateful for any help I have
received in the past from this list. I re-read my post and I didn't mean to
dismiss the asking of help as unnecessary because there is sooo much more to
genealogy than census data.)
I just wanted to say thank-you to everyone who replied in agreement to my
posting yesterday and THANK YOU t

I sent the Magly Chicken question to a friend who raises birds...she sent it on to her birding friends and got a response today! This is pretty vague but for what it's worth...
"got hit on magley chickens but ended up in a vague situation that mentioned
chickens and Prarie chickens. Circulated in Montana and north central west states..."
Not much butI'd say it'a a local term for the silly things!!

I don't know how to contact the List Administrator, but I need to advise him/her that BEVERLY FRANKS on this list has a virus. As I am getting loads of Virus warnings, I know he wants to be advised so he can take care of it by advising Beverly. Thanks.
P.S. I have Norton Virus software that takes care of it, but others aren't as lucky.
Hoping to find descendants to Carl Johan and Anna Elvira SWANSON (Svensson
in swedish). They emigrated from Sweden in 1907 and settled in the city of
Des Moines or close to the city. Carl was born in 1878 and Elvira was born
in 1880. In 1910 they had at least two children; Carl Uno, born 1905 and
Karin Elvira, born 1903. I'll appreciate any kind of information on Carl,
Elvira and their children.
Best Regards

Re: Sadie Smith. Have you approached the Woodbury County Genealogical
Society to see what they have? I would bet they have a good variety of
information on members of service organizations, church memberships,
cemetary internees, funeral home records, military records and school lists
that you could tap into. Also may have access to Newspapers of the day for
that time period. If not there, try the local library and find a volunteer
who would search this out for you. Newspapers are a good thing in Iowa.
This is my first message to this list although my family have been in Iowa
since before 1850. My great aunt, Jessie Andrews lived in Johnson County
IA. After her first husband died, she married a much younger man and he had
her commited to the state mental hospital in Henry County, IA and took all
of her estate that was left to her by her mother and father, Orrin and Sarah
S. Andrews. Does anyone know how I can obtain her records from the state
hospital? She died in 1936 and is buried at the hospital c

What office would I have to contact in Webster county to find birth, marriage, and death certificates going as far back as the 1800's.
I would also like to know if any of you could help me in finding information about Indian tribes in Iowa. Is there any where I can go or any one I can talk to so I can get reliable information?
Thank you,
