Thank you, Sharyn, It is quite likely then, that the name was taken from
the woman's grandmother. Her father was born in Ireland, but nothing is
known of his family.

I am seeking the marriage of John SLATER and Anne ARCHER, believed to
be in the period 1847-53.
John Slater was my great-great grandfather, and he came from Paisley
in Scotland.
Anne Archer was the daughter of John Archer, a private in the 83rd
Regiment (later incorporated in the Royal Ulster Rifles), and his wife
Ellen. John Archer's service record shows that he came from the
parish of Armagh.
I am wondering whether the Slater/Archer marriage took place in the
Armagh area. If anyone has

Hello again,
I just reread my post, and it was not complete. My ggrandfather Peter
MCBRIDE had immigrated to the US
probably mid 1860's, and married one Anastasia HOLAHAN abt 1868.
The firstborn child in 1869 was born in New York City.
It is not known to me if Peters' father, Peter MCBRIDE or mother, Ann
QUIGLEY MCBRIDE ever immigrated
to the US.
Sorry for not having clarity in my first post.
Thanks!

Hello Margaret,
I couldn't find anything re Irish Goddess for this name. However, I did
notice it coming up as a surname. Perhaps as with what often happens, the
mother's maiden name was given as a middle name? Just a thought.

This has to do with Caldwell genealogy in Ulster, County Antrim.
My great great great grandfather James Caldwell was born in 1775.
His brother Joseph Caldwell was born in 1776 (3 US Census proof).
James sailed to New York from Londonderry, arrived June 18, 1817.
James is listed as a passenger on the ship AEOLUS of Londonderry.
James had a first wife named Caroline and they had 10 children.
James married Caroline in 1796. Caroline died in Ireland in 1816.

My GG Grandmother, maintained her first married name throughout the births of her children by her second marriage. Her second marriage was to William Rogers but maintained her first married name of ADGEY on the birth certificates of her children but on the children's death certificates or marriage certificates she used her maiden name of HENDRON / HENDREN.
Mary and her first husband, Archibald Adgey came from County Antrim to Liverpool and thence to Geelong,Australia.
