I was born at home (746 So. Kilbourne Ave. Chicago IL) during the flu
epidemic of 1918 and apparently my birth was not registered. When I
applied for a passport in 1979 I had to obtain a delayed birth
certificate by supplying an affidavit from my sister stating my age and
birthday, plus army service records and Baptismal certificate
(Presentation Church). It is hard to believe that as a child going
through school, etc., I did not need a birth certificate, so it is
possible my original was misfiled

The information was online for free at one time on a website called

Thanks, Maureen, those sites look to be very helpful. I have the ceritifcate number and date my relative applied for his pension in 1889. So it's a matter of what further information I can collect.
Thanks again!

Thanks to all who gave me a heads up about delayed birth certificates. I was not aware they existed until now. They only additional information re: the affidavit is that my great grandmother was still living at the same address as when she died 2 years later.

I was going through some old miscellaneous files and came across a
death certificate I have for a Peter McHugh, who died 12/20/1960 at
age 63, in Chicago; son of James McHugh and Mary Gilran; informant is
Catherine McHugh, though no relation is given.
This is not a relative of mine; if it's part of your research and
you'd like it, contact me off-list.
Thanks.

Hi Cathy,
I think we kind of go in spurts. Someone will write a query or comment to the list and there will be a flurry of postings. Right now, I think we're kind of in a lull. I myself am in the middle of about 5 different projects, not counting getting my tax stuff together too!
I've actually been corresponding with someone from Athlone in the last few days, although it really has nothing to do with genealogy, just a common interest in an Irish singer we both like.
My family is from Co. Mayo ( FOY f

Dear Listers,
I couldn't remember seeing anyone post info. regarding this EPPI site, so I thought I'd share it. Go to the advanced search to limit your search to a specific county. When I typed in M'Clelland I got a lot more hits than when I typed McClelland so try both if your surname is a Mac or Mc.

Hi there everyone,
Many thanks indeed for all the great help and advice that you have all given
me so far. I was wondering if anyone was able to find an earlier entry of
William Crowe going to Ireland...before 1920??? If so, his brother John
would have been listed with him. William came back but John stayed behind in
Ireland, for 18 months, due to typhoid that he contracted while in Ireland.
It would be great if we could find some answers on this one, as we know he
died in 1936 but not sure if he die
To find a list of priests check the "Official Catholic Directory."? It covers the entire country.? Moreover, it has been published annually for decades, and each annual edition gives a necrology of priests who died that year.

Im sorry for such a delayed response to the post-luncheon feedback. I hit a very hectic time after our luncheon and am now finally able to write. Im making up for lost time, so I hope this post isnt too lengthy!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was over the moon to get the images of

Anywhere from Oct. 1st onwards...according to the image.
My sincerest gratitude.

One question someone may or may not be able to answer for me. Is there
somewhere I can enquire to see if there is an index of sorts, listing all
the priests in Chicago? Just a thought, after seeing all this information on

On a side issue, John Crowe stayed in Ireland for over a year with the
typhoid and returned to the USA when he was better. He died sometime in
1936. At this stage we do not know where.
