An excellent website covering many aspects of the Irish diaspora, with a
bibliography ( The Irish in Britain, 1750-1922) can be found at this url:
http://www.brad.ac.uk/acad/diaspora/guides/brit.shtml
There is also a review of a number of essays collectively titled " Irish
Immigrants and Scottish Society in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries".
Edited by T.M.Devine. (Edinburgh, 1991)

Thanks Jim for the background information. I am a native Scot living in
Canada since childhood, now finding Irish amongst my ancestors. Cairns is
the most recent but I know there are many more, so I am
embarking on a journey to learn more abt the Irish. Thank you for adding to
my knowledge and for sharing your vast knowledge and understanding. Regards,
Jen

Hello,
I just subscribed to the list. First, does anyone have any bibliographical
suggestions as to reading up, generally, on the Ireland-to-Scotland
migration that created the "Irish-Scots"?
Second, my particular interest: my 9-great-grandfather, James PATTERSON (b.
c1633) was supposedly born in Cluny, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He was taken

The story of the Irish in Scotland is one that seems most dramatically
symbol-ised in the confrontation of crowds sup-porting Glasgow Celtic and
Glasgow Rangers. But the symbol itself raises its own questions. Twen

Sorry, about not citing the source of the article, but I will gladly do that
Iain, but the magazine I took it from is at work, I'll get it tomorrow &
post it to the list.
It was from one of the volumes in the Scottish History series published some
years ago, by one of the Glasgow newspapers.

Jim
Hi Seamus
