I too am looking for info on the Island of Inisheer.
I am making a trip there in the spring and need to
know about the cemeteries and possible churches on the
island. (I read that you need permission from the
parish to look at their records. Thanks to several on

looking in the phone directories, with no luck. Any

Dear Pat, I do not have your original inquiry about Thomas Ganley. But in the
book, Stones Of Aran, by Tim Robinson, there is a great deal about Thomas'
involvement with the assault on the bailiff. PP. 176-177
It happened in 1881 and Bryan Kilmartin went to jail for life in 1882 for the
crime. He was released in 1884 by the British government when Thomas Ganley
confessed on his deathbed that he had done it. I have about 450-500 pages
from the Irish Historical Museum about the trial, imprisonment, relea

in Malden, MA. I never knew the history of Thomas Ganely. All I knew that
he was a friend of the family who my grandfather knew. This has really given
me some meaning as I visit the graves.
Thank you so much for your help. You can be sure of my genuine apprecation.

Hi Cathy,
I'm just now trying to catch up with genealogy lists. I'm still in the hunt for my Mullin/Dirrane/McDonough/Conneely crowd. Pecking away and making very slow progress. YOu know how that is.
I saw your query about Boston College and I wasn't sure if anyone had answered your question. I've done research at BC maybe 6 or 7 times. I used it primarily for Griffiths Evaluation. I know that I could have gotten this at NEHGS or BPL, but at the time Boston College was more convenient. I could drive and
Dear all
I have lost all my old e-mails (temporarily,I hope) so I have no details to
work from.
I have some info.on Costelloe on Inisheer, but I need whoever asked for it to
send the original info. again.
Also, anyone else who is waiting to hear from me,please can you contact me
again with brief details?
Let this be a warning to you all - Back up your Personal Filing Cabinet !!
I am told my info.is not lost,it's somewhere on my hard -drive,but that's not
a lot of help at the moment. I have spent hours
While browsing the Ellis Island records, I found more people from Aran. I also did not know until recently that for later records you can also go to the next or previous page of the ship manifest and find the name of the person's nearest relative from Aran. Hope these help someone. Rosemary

On my copy of the 1821 census, Mary Costelloe living with Pat Conneely # 57
is age 15.
Those of us with Griffins (John, Ray and myself) have laid claim to Kate
Costelloe, daughter of Michael and Pegy # 59. John Griffin's death
certificate in Lowell, MA names his parents as Bryan Griffin, family # 58 in
the 1821 and Catherine Costello, most likely the girl next door. They are
the correct ages to be having the children we know of - John Griffin, Martin
Griffin, Monica Griffin, and possibly Patrick Griffin,
Dear Val,
I had a rummage through the Costelloes on Inisheer, and the good news is,there
aren't that many of them!!
In the 1821 census ,there are only 3 households and a couple of singles.
Your family has to be:
#60 Tom Costelloe 34 tailor
Mary Costelloe 25 wife
Michael son age 1
Next door
#59 Michael Costelloe 63 tailor
Pegy 61 wife
John 28 son tailor
Kate 18 daughter flaxspinner
I think we have to read that as one family,parents,2 sons ,1 daughter and a
grandson. The cens
Hi-
Thank you so much for your email. I do have a Julia Lydon McDonough on my
side, but she is not a McDonough but a Lydon. I think that she may have come
over later before the first world war.

Eileen, sorry to "butt" in on your note to Cathy but you sound like you know
a bit about
Boston College. I was wondering if you knew whether or not the college
keeps
admission records? My grandfather attended Boston College (circa 1917-1921)
and I would love to see what information was provided for genealogical
purposes. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide. karen

Dear Ed.
I spent several hours looking through the indexes yesterday, but had no luck.
I looked for a wedding for Nora and Michael,from 1864- 1876,and a wedding for
Tom/Mary from 1885-1895.
I may have missed something,but it's more likely they weren't registered,or
Nora went by a different name,or Tom and Mary married in the US.
It might be worth going through the indexes looking for Andrew?Forde, but
there are too many Michael Flaherty/Fahertys .
Sorry to bear bad news.
Cathy
Rosemary,
I checked my records, and it was 1994 that I was in contact with Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. At that time I got a very detailed response to my query and stamped self addressed envelope.
The letterhead is as follows:
Archdiocesan Cemeteries, Malden Area
175 Broadway
Malden MA 02148
Ph: 322-6301
I do know that some of the cemeteries now charge for this info. Don't know if that's the case here.
Good luck,
Eileen
For anyone researching on Inisheer, I also recommend the graveyard book! I am hoping my Irish dictionary arrives soon so I can understand more of the book!
Cathy - Have you figured out what page 131 means? Are these people who don't have a stone? And page 132 - are these people who died in 1901? If it has to do with the census, my people aren't listed.
I have been able to connect more of my Conneely graves:
Grave 33 - Coleman Conneely and his wife Margaret O'Donnell, Coleman's son Patrick and his wife

Dear Pat
Thanks for the excuse, but I can't blame the computer for not coming up with
any thing else on Larry Conneely.
I've been through the graveyard book, but nothing of any relevance. There is a

Don't know if it's relevant, but not too many islander
I looked through my O'Donnell list again. Here is what I have :

Coleman O'Donnell age 25 June 4, 1922

Hi Cathy,
Saw your note about cemeteries and figured I'd jump in too. My Irish Boston family is pretty well spread over the area. Some of the earliest burials were at St. Mary in Dorchester. A disappointing trip there left me with a list of names, and not one of them had a stone.
We have lots of family buried Calvary; Mt.Hope; St.Joseph; Mt.Benedict; and Holyhood. These are all in Boston. Then we have Calvary in Waltham; Calvary in Woburn; and Holy Cross in Malden. There are a number of strays in cemeterie
Cathy,
Thank you so much for the information on Thomas Ganely. He is buried in my
family plot in Holy Cross Cem. in Malden, MA. My great, great grandfather
buried him.
In the 1920's, Father Ganely send gold over for burying Thomas Ganely.
Yes. I was wondering if you could please send the information on the
O'Flaherty's and Ganely to me. Annie O'Flaherty who came over in the 1950's
was my 3rd cousin. I am trying to piece together how we are related to the
O'Flaherty's. Also, Kate McDonough's (N

My name is Patrick McDonough and I live in Boston. I come from a long line
of descendants from the Aran. I was over in June of '99 and had a wonderful
time.
I have been researching my family roots on my mothers side and have found
that:
Peter Connelly married Hanora or Hannah Daly(father Lawrence Daly and mother
Catherine) in 1834 on the small island Isinshere. ( I think. It is tough to
read the bible).
They had a farm. What is the English name for Honora or Hannah? She came to
the U.S. in the

Their phone number is: 1-888-919-7926. Their fax number is: l-781-322-3809
I have the name of Jodi Fuller as a contact. She was helpful.
It took me over 6 months to get a reply for my request. Good luck

Dear Cathy,
Thank you so much for your help. I believe that you have filled in some of
the questions that I had.
Lawrence Connelly was on Aran in 1835 to Peter and Hanora(Daley) Connelly.
He also had brothers Peter, John, Michael and a sister??. Lawrence came over
first around 1852-6 and brought the rest over. He lived with the Foleys in
South Boston. There was a John and Anges Foley. I believe that he was the
oldest.
I believe that John and Michael died in the civil war. We have their
records.
Hi Patrick: I forwarded your message to a woman I know who is researching
Feeneys' Foleys and McDonoughs. I believe she may be able to help you.
Meanwhile, do you have any McKays on either side? I am researching my
McKay/McDonough lines and right now I have a Bridget(Delia) McDonough, b.
1870 Ireland, d. 1923 Portland, ME whose parents were John and Mary
McDonough. Census records show they came here from Ireland approx. 1880.
Delia had one sister at least that I know of and her name was Julia. Delia
I have computer trouble,so have been unable to make contact.

Dear Val
Send at once for the Inisheer graveyard book!
It has so much information.
I think the lists at the back of the book are the present -day caretakers of
the graves ,and presumably descendants.Or that's how I translated it,but I
might have got the wrong end of the stick,'cos Gaelic is a really difficult
language to decipher from a pocket dictionary!! Has anyone else got the book
yet and can comment?
Unfortunately,my folks came from Iarairne/Eararna on Inishmore and I haven't
had ONE single co
