I've checked through the various records for any other Colman Joyce.
Surprisingly,I have only found 7 births.
1864 -Michael/Mary o'Donnell
1865-john/mary conneely
1867-colman/sarah degadon
1876-william/cath flaherty
1877-michael/penny joyce
1898-michael/barbara curlin
1900-myles/margaret donohoe
There were obviously fewer Joyces on Aran than I had thought. They all seem to
be in the Killeany/kilronan areas.
I've been trying to match up the above colmans with the 1901 + death records
etc.,to see if I can a
Just a quick note-
I intended going over to Galway next week to extract some more
births/deaths/marriages from the records at the Registrar's office in
Newcastle Road.
I phoned to book and was told that they were not permitting any researchers
until next year, due to staff shortages.
It's a real nuisance, as I had planned on going over once a month throughout
the winter. It's the only way to get these records, and I had hoped to get the
bulk of them copied.
So if anyone intended going there to do a littl
Hi Cathy:
Would be interested in any information on the Hernons on Inishmore that you
might have time to look up.
Thank you again for all of your help in the past.

I am cuirious as to the birth records for Margarte Dunahoo (Donoahue), my
paternal great-grandmother. She married Mr. Dillane, then Myles Joyce. Who
was her birth mother? Thank you.

Hi Cathy,
Thanks so much for your sleuthing. This does appear to be my missing English family. I've tracked them from England to New Brunswick, to Massachusetts. They were always following the cotton mills. The move to Illinois is one I never would have found without your help. Not sure why they are there or whether they stayed.Just more things to look up.
With gratitude,
Eileen
Cathy,
My cousins do not recall a blacksmith in the family. Sorry it took so long to
respond. Do you have any more information? I don't so far.

Cathy,
The 1880 census images I have looked at do give street names.
Does the index tell you the enumeration district number? Does it give the census page number? If you have those two numbers, I can look at the census image.
When I look at census records for family members, the neighboring families often have "Aran names" but there is no way to tell if they are indeed from Aran unless you do more research on the family - which I have done on occasion.... I have enough to do to keep me busy for years to
Thank you, Cathy. I will check further but I'm betting on the child of
Michael Joyce & Barbara Curlin because of the DOB & he named a daughter,
Barbara. I haven't heard the Curlin name on Aran before but will keep looking.

Hi Cathy - sorry for my misinterpretation - I was one of those thinking you
had the 1881 census for Ireland. You can cross my request off the list for
the 1880 US census as our folks came over at a later date.
Thank you. Nancy (Hernon) Melito
Cathy,
I'm so sorry. I should have mentioned that I am searching for this family in
South Boston MA.
Thanks

Thanks for all your help in the past. What I was wondering if there is any
information in the census about Bartly Flaherty's grandparents, Patsy and
Bridget such as date of birth or their parents. Or is there any information
on Bridget's parents. Thanks again for all that you have done.
John Flaherty

It wasn't the Coleman Joyce, son of Myles and Margaret Joyce, brother of
Margaret, Myles Jr., anne (Nan), Thomas, Stephen and Kate Dirrance Joyce
Kilmartin.........that Coleman Joyce married Mary Ellen Mulkerrin in
Pittsburgh after coming to Boston in 1924. He was my grandfather.

There is another Colman Joyce on the Ellis Island list. No proof he is from
Aran but it is a possibility. The information is :

Hi Cathy,
Thanks so much for your John Connolly information. I checked him against my records and turns out he's the wrong one. Would you do another lookup for me?

To answer your question, I've done quite a bit with census records both at the national archives in Waltham and at NEHGS on Newbury St. Boston. They provide a wealth of iformation if you can find them. Yes, they do give the street and house number.
