Clonegal restored two cottages that were built, specifically for weavers to occupy, by the owners of Huntington Castle, the Durdans, in 1690. Perhaps someone associated with that enterprise, now a small and warm tourist site, will have information on the local weavers of your era? DanJ

I have extracted details of all the DOWNES & DOWNS plus NEILL & O'NEILL baptism and marriage register entries from St Brigid's RC Church at Clonegal covering the period 7 January 1833 to 26 December 1880 (bapt) and 2 November 1834 to 16 November 1880 (marr). If anyone has an interest in the DOWNES or O'NEILL surnames (& variant spellings) in the Co Wicklow & Co Carlow border areas, please let me know and I will be happy to search my list for you.

Eileen, I saw mention that you might have a buriel register for St Fiaac's Clonegal. I am searching for births/deaths for Charles Sterne, and possible death of Mary Sterne, also any marriage of Charles and Mary Sterne. I have found a baptism notice for their daughter, Susannah 16.12.1818 but would like information re Charles and Mary. There are a number of Sterne's in Clonegal.
