Hi Bonnie,
To my knowledge the Carlow French Church records are lost. There was certainly a
French church there in 1696 but by 1744 the records had disappeared, according
to Grace Lawless Lee's book on the Huguenot settlements in Ireland (1936). I
cannot find a Minion in the index to this book, but if there are other names
email them to me and I'll look.
Other sources are the Proceedings of the Huguenot Society of London which you
will find in major libraries. Other references are Samuel Smiles: Huguenots
Anybody searching these names? They emigrated to US in 1848-1851. They ended
up in Chicago and I'm trying to find out if I'm related to them. I have also
found BYRNE and BRENNAN in the RC parish of Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow.

Hi!
I have been waiting for you! I've been hoping someone would start a list for
Co. Carlow. I thought about doing it but was chicken. LOL
My gg grandfather, Thomas BYRNE, was born Dec 4, 1822 in Ballyloughan, Parish
of Bagenalstown. We think. Son of Charles BYRNE and Johanna NOLAN.
My gg grandmother, Eliza GALLAGHER, was born in the Parish of Myshall, about
1835. Daughter of Patrick GALLAGHER and Mary Murphy. I'll post more later.
Debbie
Hi-I am delighted we have this list and
the opportunity to compare notes!
My ancestor is Arthur Minion b. 1815 in County Carlow-possibly Tullow;
immigrated to Canada in 1831. I have not been successful in locating
protestant church
records at the LDS for that area for that
time period. Is there another source?
There is also a William Minion who married
Mary Ann Coe.
I too have reason to believe my ancestor's ancestors (!) were Hugeunot. Can
someone suggest how I can explore that
further?

Hello everyone,
I'm a new member and would like to signal my research interests. Both my
Irish GGPs came from Carlow, Michael Germaine b. 1839 in Rathvilley, and
Eliza Fishbourne b.abt 1843 either in Carlow or Tullow.
Michael's father was also Michael and his mother was Eliza Hyland. Both
had died by the time he was 4 and he was possibly raised by his mother's
family. The Germaine family were Huguenots originally and probably came
to Carlow early in the 18th century. From there they spread out into

Hi...
I'm new to the list. I just got my gg-grandmother's death certificate and
it shows she was born in Tullow, County Carlow, Ireland on August 09, 1841.
Her name is Julia M. Nolan. I do not have her parents names. I have a
cousin who has some old letters she is going to send me copies of that are
from New Jersey. She married Michael Spellman July 29, 1866 probably in NY
or NJ (as I haven't been able to find a marriage license here in New Orleans

Gonna try this again and see if it shows in my mail box. Then I'll post more.
I have some URLs and addresses for Co. Carlow that I can post here. I have
been doing my own searching on the net and have a list. I want to visit
someday, so I have been looking for boards, B&Bs, genealogy sites, tourist
sites, ANYTHING that wil prepare me for a possible trip. I think it's best
to be prepared before making a trip over. I also have some info on the Parish
of Myshall if anyone is interested. In addition, I h
Hello List,
As a new member of this list, I would like to list the families of Carlow County I am researching: KAVANA(U)GH, MULDOWNEY, McCORMICK & NOLAN for now.
I will be visiting in your area during the last two weeks of October.
The information i have is my ggrandfather, GARRETT KAVANAGH, wife MARY MULDOWNEY KAVANAGH and two children emigrated to Canada about 1836. I have a baptismal certificate for Garrett from the "Raheen"church, parish of Boris, Diocese of Kildare.

Debbie,
Are the volumes indexed? I have boon looking for a set of these, but so far
haven't been able to locate them. The FHC I use is small and doesn't have
the volumes, nor do the public libraries near me a have a set. I think I
will find my gggrandparents, James and ellen Halleady (sp?) Burns in Volume
2, 3, 4 or maybe 5.

There was a census taken in 1841
which should help too. It should be

I have nothing for Protestant records. I sent a URL in another message just
now that has some cemetaries transcribed.
A Guide to Irish Parish Registers by Brian Mitchell might have some info. Do
you need Church of Ireland, Presbyterian or another
