Hello to all and Happy Holidays,
Is there anyone out there that could help me get passed a brick wall. I cannot find any info on my great grandfather and mother. John and Mary (Buckley) Buckley, married Sept. 9 1883. They had 7 children, Francis, Margaret, Mary, Timothy, John, Ellen and Jeremiah. Jeremiah born 2/1893 was my grandfather, he was born in Shanagh, Dunmanway, baptized in St. Patrick's Church, Dunmanway. He emigrated to USA, Boston, aboard the SS Franconia, Sept. 1913. Can anyone look up th
Hi John,
The Irish Free State was created when Ireland gained
Independence in 1922. In all there are 32 Counties
and in 1922 six of the Northern counties Antrim,
Armagh, Derry, Down, Fermanagh and Tyrone
opted to retain the link with Britain so the other
26 counties became the Irish Free State.
Re your question about the towns in 1840 you
would need to narrow down your search a bit as
there are and were thousands of towns.
A good map of Ireland ,even a modern one, with
an Index would give you a fair idea
Oldcourt was home of my 5x great grandfather William Norris in the 1700s.
It is situated in Co Cork, between Carrigaline and Passage West
Lewis' Topographical Directory of Cork, 1837. It states "........Old Court,
of Sir Geo. Goold, Bart., an elegant residence beautifully situated on a
commanding eminence, embosomed in woods of luxuriant growth".

May I chip in my 2-cents worth? I have only run across the phrase "Irish
Free State" in the USA census of 1930. In that census, any reference to
Ireland as a place of birth for the individual or his parents was shown as
"Northern Ireland" or "Irish Free State". I still don't know where one
great grandfather was born in 1825, but it is now narrowed down to 7
counties by his children's reference to their father's birthplace as
"Northern Ireland". Every little bit helps. Until reviewing the 1930
census, I

I'm certain this would put an immediate stop to the
complaints you are receiving, and also to comments such as
this by listers.

As we end this year, I would like to put out a request for suggestions as
how to locate where a relative died. My uncle, Reginald (aka Roger) Joseph
Lynch McDade was born in Glasgow Scotland on 24 Dec 1924. His parents were
Hugh McDade of Letterkenney Ireland and Eileen Lynch of Limerick Ireland.
Family legend has it that Reggie died shortly after WWII in a motorcycle
accident in London. This past year, I came in contact with a third cousin
who was also researching the family. His mother, my grandfathe
To all:
This morning, I received a nice Christmas card with letter from Ireland,
addressed to my precise mailing address (even the full 9-digit ZIP-code !). But
it was addressed to Mary Schupy !! I had no choice (there was no return
address), so I opened it. The card and letter are signed "Gavin/Cousin/etc - can't
decipher it" John O'Sullivan, Ardgroom. I'd be more than happy to forward the
card and letter to Mary Schupy - if I knew where she lived. I doubt if the
card will get there before Chri

I am also interested in the name De Courcy in the Kinsale area. Despite the
French sounding name they dont appear in the list of Hugenot names and the
Kinsale family seem to all stem from native Irish stock (hence RC) There
was Edmund Oge de Courcy of Kinsale, 17th Baron of Kinsale. I have come to
the conclusion that all the Kinsale De Courcys descended from this family.
A very early pedigree of this family shows many younger untitled son, some
of whom went to England. The distribution of the name a

Hi Listers. I am looking for my Grandfather, Michael KENNY b1877. I am led to believe he was born in Cork and his father is also called Michael. The only other information i have is he married Emma CORLETT in manchester, 1914, and he also died in Manchester in 1947.
I know this is a shot in dark, but any help or advice would be welcome.
Thank you.

Dear Friends:
I am seeking information on MCDONOUGH, Ellen, b abt 1875, County Cork. She
married in the USA near the turn of the 20th century. I am particularly
interested in her parents and welcome sibling and decendant information as
well.

I am a lurker of this site, I think I have only responded once to an email.
I read a lot of the information posted and try to gain information from
there. I know very little about my Irish ancestors at this point, except
for the fact that they came from Cork.
As a teacher, I have always told my students that no question is a dumb
question, but failure to ask makes us ignorant.
I must say that as a reader of this site I was a bit offended at the
response given to John. I thought these sites were to he
Andrew - I agree totally that we need to first address the offending person directly.
BUT - Padraig has a separate set of rules. We are not "allowed" to send direct replies. He signs his e-mails with "no direct replies please", and he will not accept them. I have tried to contact him directly.
This is not his first "incident". On other lists I am on, these types of comment and his refusal for direct replies would be construed as "bullying" and he would be unsubscribed. Why do we tolerate it from this
Does anyone know if there exists an old map of Cork City in the 1880's? I
have an address of an ancestor that lived there back in the 1880's and would like
to locate where exactly they lived. My name is Rick Reed at
Finder5050@aol.com.

Can anyone tell me the significance of DRIMMENEEN? It is not in the IreAtlas
at seanruad.com. "The lands of Drimmeneen" are referred to in a record of
Applications for the Registering of Freeholds in the Barony of Dulhallow in 1829.
It is online.
I am interested in a Denis Collins there who resided in Drimmeneen, Kilbrin
and applied to register a freehold of 17 acres.
I shall shortly be unsubscribing from this list, to spend a few months
writing up my findings. Would love to have a comment on this fr
Thank you Padraig - it is most graciously accepted. We value the genealogical information you provide.
Best wishes for a happy 2004

Kelly, there is a lady in Dublin who does look ups for families in the 1901 and 1911 censuses. You can write her with your family info and hope that it is enough address to gather the census info.

This coming Thursday, New Year's Day, RTE Radio One is broadcasting a
half-hour documentary on the O'Sullivan march (the original one). The broadcast is
at 15:30 Irish time, or 10:30 AM Eastern U.S. Time. The RTE website is
www.rte.ie , and I believe they are only hooked-up with Realplayer (but I'm not
sure).
