3. Re: Donovans in Cork [1]
FWIW - My great aunt, Julia Sullivan, married Michael Sullivan whose parents were Patrick and Catherine (Donovan). According to his naturalization record, he was born in 1876 in Amonister/Aghmanister in the Civil Parish of Abbeymahon, Roman Catholic Parish of Donoughmore, Diocese of Ross. A good resource for searching the occurrence of surnames is John Grenham's CD, Irish Surnames, which allows double surname searches. You will, undoubtedly, find many places where Sullivan/Donovan occur, but it's

8. Where is Clomanach, County Cork? [1]
Regards to all, I have a marriage registration for a John Sullivan that lists Clomanach as his place of residence in 1870 in the Macroom registration district of County Cork. I cannot determine if this is a townland or another location. Has anyone ever heard of this place or have an idea? Thanks, Joe Hunter

10. Re: Donovan in Cork [1]
I am researching a Donovan family in Cork. John Donovan b. abt 1800 married Julia Coleman b. abt 1800. They had Catherine Donovan b. November 6, 1827. (DOB derived from her US death certificate that staed her age at death to be 88 years 2 months 4 days) She married Timothy Dilworth and they had 8 children, I can locate 6 of them. Her place of birth I have had a hard time reading what it says but I believe it to be something Gangnavar Co Cork and I could be wrong about the spelling. That was on her sh
11. Re: JOHNSTON: Wee Three - Francis, Robert & Archibald [1]
An "Assessment Roll" is an often overlooked "blessing" for UPPER CANADA researchers. It is a list of people who own property that can be taxed. In addition it provides some other great information, but it stops just short of being perfect for genealogists. While it lists other people in a household it does not name them. It has allowed me to find children that we had previously not known about and to see, sadly, approximately when they died in infancy when they do not show up on the next Assessment
12. Re: Where is Clomanach, County Cork? [1]
Padraig Msr/ Bill Fahy/Pete/Dennis, Thanks for all of the help and good advice.....great to know there are so many folks willing to help! I did take a look at www.seanruad.com as well, including county Kerry. The only clue I had for Kerry was that Honora's husband, John Sullivan, died somewhere before 1884 and we believe she married a John Donovan in Kenmare in 1884. For certain, we do know that Honora Donovan did emigrate to Boston in 1901 from Kilgarvan from the ship manifest. It seemed logical to

I am looking for information regarding the Frawley's from Lackaroe, Liscarroll, Mallow, Cork, Ireland. They owned a farm at this same location. My great grandfather Thomas Frawley died January 13, 1934. He was married to who I believe was Kate Morton who died Nov 22, 1911. They had one child named John Frawley 1986-1978 who's first wife was Hannah Roche who died around 1932 and is buried at Abbeyswell Cemetery in Mallow Cork. I have been told that Hannah Roche mothers maiden name was Donavan. However at thi

16. Re: James Mahoney [1]
Shirley, I have a Julia Mahoney, or possibly Maloney. She married a Michael Buttomer , probably in Cork, about 1845. According to the book "Families of County Cork", Mahoney and its various forms is a principal name of Cork with relatively few found outside southern Ireland. I know almost nothing about my Julia, other than her marriage to Michael Buttomer. This information was gained from their son's death record. He was John Buttomer, my husband's great grandfather on the maternal side. Is it

20. Research in County Cork [1]
Hello to all, I'm trying to track down my Kelly/Cashman/Reynolds ancestors from County Cork. Is there some reliable online sources out there I could utilize that I'm missing? Are there Genealogists that may be commisioned to conduct research onsite in Ireland? All I know are birthdates, children, Catholic, when and from where they left, and that most of them became farmers in Illinois on this side of the pond. Any recommendations/advice is truly appreciated. Thanks! Scott

22. Re: [Mallow] Collins [1]
Hi Dennis, What an interesting post. Knowing Collins was the anglicization of Cullinan, I had assumed that it came about post-Cromwell. Seeing one for 1641 was startling. Have you found any using the name earlier than that?
