Re: Higgins in County Cork. There were quite a few Higgins in Cork in
Griffith's Valuation, 1851-53. The information that they were all furthur

I would like it all. I understand that wales has lists of school children,
parish registers, etc for about 5$-$10. that is reasonable, and I would buy
them for my local FHL.

You're looking for Enniskeen - more than likely.

Hi Barbara,
There is an Enniskean on the N71 about 30 miles west of Cork City.
This could be the place you need.

Does anyone know if there is an Iniskeenin Co. Cork? MY gggrandfather, Owen
MCCARTHY is supposed to have immigrated from there in 1849, But I have not
been able to locate it on a map. Thanks
Tom,
you might go on line and try to locate a volunteer in Ireland to help you.
Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness (RAOGK)can get you to a person who has
the where with all and hopefully, knowledge, and might be able to get the
birth data that you need....although Ireland can be a slow place sometimes.
Best of luck,
Candi (RAOGK) in California

This is my first posting to a list though I've been listening in for a few months now.
I'm researching the WOOD family who were farming at Castlelands, Enniskean until the 1940s or 50s They were protestants.
My great grand parents Richard WOOD (father William) and Mary Jane KINGSTON (father Thomas) were married at St Mary Shandon Cork, 29 Dec 1868. I believe they had a large family but apart from my grandfather Alexander Allen WOOD, born 4 aug 1882, I only know of brothers William Thomas b.1870, Tho
I would appreciate other listers opinions on the following situation:
My Co. Cork ancestors apparently followed the naming pattern in most
generations, including my Father in naming his children. However his
parents, after naming their 1st son John, called 2nd son Michael [my
father] as both GFathers were called John. Would the mother in this instance
have used her eldest brothers name or her GFather's name?
Any ideas on the usual custom in a situation like this?

Eleanor, I had never before heard of a " United Church of Ireland".
You probably mean the protestant " Church of Ireland"
A Parish Clerk is one, usually, in those days who for the labour of
love, volunteered his services as a Sexton and recorder of the
happenings in the day to day activities of his church; i.e., ring the
bell for services; record the details of baptism, deaths and
marriages, etc. etc.
Since it seems that he was a Protestant, you stand a very good chance
of getting some details from the Her

Hi,
Could someone please look up the following marriage for me?
George Frederick Bolster
Agnes Walker
They are my grandparents and were married sometime before 1934, Agnes was
born in 1909, so there's quite a small window.
Thanks,
Adrian
Hi Bridget
The closest census available is 1911, you can access microfilm copies
through the family history library (ie the latter day saints church). There
was no census in 1921 because of the war, the next was in the mid to late
1920s (I'm not sure of the exact year) and is not likely to be released for
quite a few years yet.

Subject: 68 Old Georges
Hi all,
Can anyone help ?
I have a letter written by a J.M. COWELL of 68 Old Georges Street, Cork in 1924
It was written to the daughter of a ships captain who went down with his ship the Lismore between Cork and Liverpool.
It sounds like it was written by a lady with whom he may have had a relationship or it may have been just a pal.
I would like to find out more about this person or the family who lived there.
How can I do this?
Does anyone have access to any census records that may help?
Regards
B
Hi Everyone:
I thought with the enquiries about McNamara, I would post the information I have for our family connection. Early records record the name as M'Namara and then McNamara.
Robert McNamara was born circa 1801 in Ireland. Family tradition says that Robert was born in New Ross, County Wexford.
At Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia, Canada, Robert M'Namara of Halifax married Ann, daughter of John Gammon on 30 November 1828. Robert was listed on the Colchester County land records in 1823, as a shoemaker,
Does anyone know where I can purchase a copy of the book, Reardon/Riordan,The
History from Cork to Missouri,Boston, and Canada? I believe it was published

Hallo fellow Listers,
I need some help! I have come up to a solid brick wall in my family research.
Perhaps someone has come across the following people and can give me a lead:
-James M. LAVALLIN, probably born in Cork around 1820s married Elizabeth WALSH -
any info would be good.
-Elizabeth LAVALLIN and Catherine LAVALLIN, twins, born 15.10.1865 in Cork - who
did they marry?
-Catherine O'GORMAN, died 04.02.1940 in Cork, daughter of Dennis O'GORMAN - any
info would be good.
-John LAVALLIN, born ar
I, too, have been having similar problems to Padraig with familysearch over
the last few days. Finally, as a last resort, I typed in all the information
I had from a previous search for one individual; the full name, date,
including film and batch numbers, as a check; and the result came up -
zilch! So either my ancestor's details have been deleted (unlikely?), or the
system isn't working right!
Presumably it will be righted eventually ...
Best wishes,

Researching FORDE, DOODY,
Re; McNamara, Frawley et al. One approach to locate ancestors would be to
check , then insert the name in the surname search
bloc and click to find the name's distribution throughout Ireland during the
mid-19th century when Griffith's Valuation was conducted. You will find, for
example, that most of the Frawleys were concentrated in counties Clare and
Limerick so focus your search in those places. Hope this helps, Tom.
