Hello Listers, I am new to this list. I have a little information and will
ask a question after posting what I have:
My gg grandmother Mary E. Nagle came to USA in 1871. She settled in Enfield,
Conn. She married Michael Lynch born in Conn. Some time after Michael's
death she moved to Lowell, Ma (found her in 1900 census before her death). On
census said she came to USA in 1871. On death cert. listed her parents as
Peter Nagle and Jane Connor.
I do not know if Peter and Jane came to USA.

My G.G.Grandfather (John FARRELL) was born in Bandon,Co.Cork Ireland, on 5 December 1819. He left Ireland as a apprentice seaman, and eventually became a Coast guard in the North of England.
I have just found out his Father (through acquiring my G.G.Grandmother and John's marriage certificate) was also John FARRELL whose occupation on the birth certificate was Soldier.
Witnesses at this marriage in Lymington area of Hampshire were, Wm? Rawlins and Priscilla Plowman.
Do any of these names mean anythin

I have made some posts on this subject before but need to correct some
mistakes, I have also had some recent success in this area. These notes
apply to wills for which probate was granted between 1858 and 1897.
For a person with property in Cork probate would be granted at either the
Cork district registry or the principal registry in Dublin. The originals of
all wills were held at the PRO in Dublin, most were destroyed in the 1922
fire. Wills probated in the Cork district registry were copied into a book

Eleanor,
If you go to the www.seanruad.com website, and enter Cork in the county and
St. Finbar's (one "r") in the civil parish spot, you will get 43 townlands
listed. Two of them, Killumney and Mylane, are located about 6 miles WSW of
the other section of the parish, in East Muskerry Barony. Perhaps this is
the "South" portion of the parish.

I have been frequently asked by my children to give them some account
of our family history and my early life and I now yield to their wishes.
I was born on November 6th 1837 in the house No. 22 Georges Street in
the old city of Cork and from my infancy breathed in an atmosphere of plans
and specifications for my Father practised as an Architect and had his office
in the house.
I have some very early recollections of that house and quite remember
my fourth birthday

Hi : I am looking for any information on my gggrandmother johanna franey in co. cork. She was born about 1800,married michael mccarthy about 1820.they had five childern: patrick, james, john, richard and margaret. the family moved to new brunswick, canada about 1850. We know nothing of there life in Ireland . I am hoping someone could help-where I might start looking in Ireland. thanks Brian
Brian,
The calendar will tell you the date of death and value of the estate, for
obvious reasons the will will not !! If you know the year of probate (not
the year of death) and that it is the Cork registry that probate was granted
(not Dublin) and of course that there is a will to be found, then you could
go straight to the will book.

Hi
I wonder if anyone could help me my g.g.grandfather John FARRELL was born in Bandon Co.Cork Ireland 5 December 1819 his Father was a John FARRELL as well, and was a soldier.
Would anyone know what regiments were likely to be around that area in 1819. I do realise that he could of been stationed there and in a regiment for possibly from England. or he could of been in an Irish regiment. I am just not sure how to pin him down so it might help to know what was happening during that period in Co.Cork!!!!

I was interested to read about the School of Messers Hamblin & Porter

Does anyone know more about Mr PORTER who operated the school with Mr HAMBLIN?
Hope to hear

Thomas Hill before spoken of married about 1797 Catherine Field of Cork.
My father (William Hill 1798 - 1844) was born Feb 3rd 1798 and was
married to Ellen Ridings on Nov. 6th 1830 who died Dec. 1864.
My mother's father was Wm. Ridings, a city merchant, and he married in
1798 Martha Hawkes Noblett, sister of the late Henry Noblett, solicitor and
aunt to Henry Sutton Noblett, who I'm glad to say is still with us as a
highly respected and good citizen.

My information is that records are extant from 1794 for the
RC parish of Bandon. So, it is possible you could gain
another 25 years - the birth-date or marriage date of his

My ggf William H. Walsh arrived in Boston on the brig
Elizabeth on 5 APR 1848. (Capt. Boltenhouse).
Michael (24yr), Margaret (16yr) and John Walsh (24

After many years of searching I still have not found
where my ggf was born in ca1830. Are there any
passenger records in Cobh or elsewhere which will
give more information?
