My own experience looking for HAGGERTY parallels what Sharon Haggerty has described. Dennis HAGGERTY left Ireland, I know not when or where from. In the early 1850s he was likely mining lead in southwest Wisconsin when he met and married my great grandfather's older sister, Margaret KELLY, who was born in Allihies parish, Beara peninsula about 1829 (parish record not available. The marriage was performed in New Diggings at St. Augustine church (still standing), on 20 Aug 1854, by Rev. Samuel Mazzuchelli.
Patrick Myers was baptized 14 March 1844 in Castletownroche. His parents were James Myers and Bridget Shea. The witnesses were David Nagle and Elizabeth Myers.

Greetings Jackie,
Your query set me trying to do an equivalency list of first names, which
I needed when inserting batch numbers into my IGI searches online.
Narry seems to be a separate name, at least in Inchigeelagh, since it
didn't get indexed with Mary or any other first name. Norry must also be
considered a separate name, since it wasn't even equated to Nora. Not
too scientific, just based on searching one parish on the IGI, so in
other part of Cork, different naming customs may well apply.

Like the man once said.
"Signing with a cross doesn't make them religious"
and..............
to ignore a spelling as 'not yours' will lengthen your search by
years. As it did mine!

Hello Everybody,
I am trying to find DUNCAN ROSS. When his daughter MARTHA married in 1877 her address was BARRACKS at CORK 8th. and her father was a SERGEANT R.A. I am assuming that R.A. stands for ROYAL ARTILLERY. Can anyone advise me if R.A. stands for anything else, and also suggest where I could get more information about him.
Thank you for your time,
Syd Hockey.

Hi Bob,

We all wish there was a 1871 census, but alas it was destroyed. The first
available census is for 1901, followed by 1911.

Hi Bob,
The earliest Irish Census to survive in full is the
1901. The 1911 is also available.
Your Harbour Terrace in Cork could in fact be
Harbour View Terrace which was in the Summerhill
North area of Cork City.
Regards,
Brendan Jones.

What years are you talking about? I have Buckleys who came to Australia in
the mid 1800s while their parents either stayed in Ireland or went
elsewhere.

Western Australia was one of the places Fenians were transported to (1868)

Catalpa has been the subject of many books, it certainly livened up
Fremantle at the time.
A travelling exhibition is being put together for the year 2006 that will
visit country towns in WA and the major capitals of Australia and possibly
overseas.
My father always referred to his gradchildren when playing up as
"Sinfeeners", that is how he pronounced it.
