1. [GALWAY] Kilkerrin [1]
Hi Anne, My husband's father came from Kylesalia, which is the next townland to KILKIERAN, in Connemara, near Carna. Everybody calls it Kilkerrin, but it is actually Kilkieran (Church of St Kieran). Just a thought - maybe you should look in Kilkieran. I have the Griffiths Valuation pages for both Kylesalia and Kilkieran and could look to see if your surname is there if you like, although you have to remember that the G.V. was done between 1848 and 1864, depending on the area of Ireland. I believe there
2. [GALWAY] Re: parish records [1]
Hi Pat: Thanks for your email. My grandmother came from the parish of Rahoon, townland of Knocknacarragh. My grandfather on the other hand has been a problem for me. His place of birth is listed as Coolineey and I believe the townland is Kilkerrin, however, the spelling on the document is difficult to read. I tried using the website you gave me, but I did not have any luck obtaining the parish. It may be the spelling. I'll keep trying. Thank you for the information. Anne in Wyoming

Maureen -- If you mean Dernamanagh, or Derrynamanagh, it's in Galway near Ballinasloe (northeast of there, I believe). My Higgins family is from there. 8. [GALWAY] parish records [1]
Hello List: Does anyone have any information and/or experience with church records in Galway? I am planning a trip to Ireland hopefully within the next year and I was wondering if it would even be worth my time to stop at the local church where my ancestors are from. I have researched the church records available through the Family History Library and they have been some help. My ancestors are from Loughrea and Barna(just 10 miles from the city of Galway). Are there any good websites that would be h
9. [GALWAY] Re: finding cousins in Ireland [1]
Curiously enough, Carrie, no one with my surname has helped me either, mainly because I haven't found anyone here or in Ireland that is related to me, yet. But, I have had so much help from people on this list and other lists who have gone out of their way to point me in the right directions. I remember the days where I didn't know about tithes, Griffiths Valuation, never seen a census page, didn't even know where the counties were in Ireland, etc. But hard work on my part paid off. Those helping me in I

I have found my gggrandfather, MURTAUGH SCALLY in East Galway per records. I am confused with all of the location/descriptions. It seems that I may have too many location names in comparison to other information I have read from other researchers. If someone could help me out, I would appreciate it. 18. [GALWAY] 1821 Census Lookup [1]
Hi Listers, I am seeking information on John Connoll[e]y born in 1820. He gave his birth place as Galway (Oranmore possibly). He appears to have married in Galway to Margaret ?? . He left Galway in the 1850's and appeared in Staffordshire, England. Being new to the list I am not sure if this is an impossible request. Any advice greatly appreciated. 19. [GALWAY] finding cousins in Ireland [1]
I just want to relate how I found some cousins in Ireland. Yes, I did my homework. I used census records, naturalization records, Irish records such as the Griffiths Valuation, the Tithes, church registers, etc. You name it, I used it and came to an area where I thought my O'Connors came from in Co. Limerick. Also, I visited the area twice. Last time, in May, I decided to stay at a b&b in the area just to get the feel of the place. It is in the countryside and the b&b was so new, I was only their secon
20. [GALWAY] Gort & Beagh Parish [1]
Hi, For a very informative, interesting site about Gort go to www.gortonline.com I had a request for the Kilmacduagh school survey which I have a hard cover copy of & can't find. You may want to know that it is pretty statistical and contains no local names. On the other hand the Beagh Parish History book containing an abundance of info on locals. I do have the book & an alphabetical index to names. If your family is from Gort I would be happy to check the index & fwdd any info. Jackie - Las Veg
21. [GALWAY] Barony of Rathcoole [1]
This inherited title was associated with one branch of the prolific Tracy family. Our branch is trying to locate the area last known to be associated with this barony. I would assume that there is a method to research such baronies. Does a such a thing as a "barony register" exist somehwere? Any suggestions as to "research starting points" would be appreciated. 25. [GALWAY] George CHRYSTAL [1]
I would be most grateful if somebody could do a lookup in a 1881 newspaper from Gort to see if there is a death notice/obituary of George C(H)RYSTAL d. May 1881 and his wife Anne ? d. Feb 1972. They are both buried in Gort cemetery. George was estate manager of Laugh Cutra estate. I have hit a brick wall with this line of my family and cannot find Annes maiden name. Any details would be appreciated. Bev.
