Hi Anne,
My husband's father came from Kylesalia, which is the next townland to KILKIERAN, in Connemara, near Carna. Everybody calls it Kilkerrin, but it is actually Kilkieran (Church of St Kieran). Just a thought - maybe you should look in Kilkieran. I have the Griffiths Valuation pages for both Kylesalia and Kilkieran and could look to see if your surname is there if you like, although you have to remember that the G.V. was done between 1848 and 1864, depending on the area of Ireland.
I believe there
Hi Pat:
Thanks for your email. My grandmother came from the parish of Rahoon, townland of Knocknacarragh. My grandfather on the other hand has been a problem for me. His place of birth is listed as Coolineey and I believe the townland is Kilkerrin, however, the spelling on the document is difficult to read. I tried using the website you gave me, but I did not have any luck obtaining the parish. It may be the spelling. I'll keep trying. Thank you for the information. Anne in Wyoming

I am guessing that DUNMANWAY is the place and Cork is the
nearest city.

If you mean Dernamanagh, or Derrynamanagh, it's in Galway near Ballinasloe
(northeast of there, I believe).
My Higgins family is from there. Is your family from there?

We have Connaughtys from the Parish of Killariton, Barony of Killian, County
Galway but I don't know where they are. Sounds similar to something for
which you may be looking.
Anybody know where to find these?

Hello List:
Does anyone have any information and/or experience with church records in Galway? I am planning a trip to Ireland hopefully within the next year and I was wondering if it would even be worth my time to stop at the local church where my ancestors are from. I have researched the church records available through the Family History Library and they have been some help. My ancestors are from Loughrea and Barna(just 10 miles from the city of Galway). Are there any good websites that would be h
Curiously enough, Carrie, no one with my surname has helped me either,
mainly because I haven't found anyone here or in Ireland that is related
to me, yet. But, I have had so much help from people on this list and
other lists who have gone out of their way to point me in the right
directions. I remember the days where I didn't know about tithes,
Griffiths Valuation, never seen a census page, didn't even know where
the counties were in Ireland, etc. But hard work on my part paid off.

'The plains of Connaught are in general numerously provided with roads;

I have found my gggrandfather, MURTAUGH SCALLY in East Galway per records. I am confused with all of the location/descriptions. It seems that I may have too many location names in comparison to other information I have read from other researchers. If someone could help me out, I would appreciate it.
I have Murtaugh (Murty) Scally (b 1810) per Griffith's living in the Townland of Moneen, Templetogher Parish, County Galway.

Cooleeny is spelled as Cooleeny or Coleeny. My gr-gr-grandfather was also from Cooleeny, Parish Templemichael, Longford County. It was spelled Coleeny on the RC records but I have also seen it spelled Cooleeny, and when you input the name into databases, they recognize the spelling Cooleeny. :)

Hi Listers,
I am seeking information on John Connoll[e]y born in 1820.
He gave his birth place as Galway (Oranmore possibly).
He appears to have married in Galway to Margaret ?? . He left Galway
in the 1850's and appeared in Staffordshire, England.
Being new to the list I am not sure if this is an impossible request.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Cheers,
Steve

I just want to relate how I found some cousins in Ireland. Yes, I did
my homework. I used census records, naturalization records, Irish
records such as the Griffiths Valuation, the Tithes, church registers,
etc. You name it, I used it and came to an area where I thought my

Last time, in May, I decided to stay at a b&b in the area just to get

Hi,
For a very informative, interesting site about Gort go to www.gortonline.com
I had a request for the Kilmacduagh school survey which I have a hard cover
copy of & can't find. You may want to know that it is pretty statistical and
contains no local names.
On the other hand the Beagh Parish History book containing an abundance of
info on locals. I do have the book & an alphabetical index to names. If
your family is from Gort I would be happy to check the index & fwdd any info.

This inherited title was associated with one branch of the prolific Tracy

Our branch is trying to locate the area last known to be associated with
this barony.
I would assume that there is a method to research such baronies. Does a
such a thing as a "barony register" exist somehwere? Any suggestions as to
"research starting points" would be appreciated. John T. Gaffey II
