Pamela, Thanks so much for suggesting the Dowling list. I am not sure if I ever posted on there, but I will definitely check the archives. Am going to be out of town for awhile, but will subscribe when I get back. Thank you again. Hope we can keep in touch. 3. RE: [LAOIS] KENNEDY [1]
Hi All, I recently received some information from the Irish Midlands Ancestry relating to my Kennedy Family. I was able to gain a few more pieces of information about the family however the overall result was a little disappointing. James Kennedy married Bridget Brennan sometime around 1818, possibly in Killabban. No record of birth or a marriage for this couple. Both died prior to 1849. The first trace of the family is from the Doonane RC Baptismal records which gives Mary Kennedy bapt. 17 July 1818.
4. [LAOIS] DELANEY -Patrick, Dean of Down [1]
Hi all, I got a couple of tidbits of info from the Anglican Library in Dublin today. My ancestor - Thomas Dulaney b. abt 1662 in Queen's County had a nephew Patrick Delaney who became Dean of Down. Thomas and his sons came to America and founded a large branch of Dulaneys here. It seemed that his nephew having achieved some prominence might be a conduit to learning who the father of Thomas was. What I learned today was that the father of Patrick was named Denis Delaney. (Dennis is a name that permeat

6. [LAOIS] Re: IRL-LAOIS-D Digest V02 #107 [1]
Tim, That would include 90% of the Irish born in Ireland but lving in Scotland in the 1871/1881 census. Just a passing note. I have been looking for the birth place in Ireland for most of my family. They went to IRL for work sometime in the mid 1800's Have a nice day and lots of luck Bob Cdn. ------------------------------------------------- > Subject: > > [LAOIS] Irish moves to St Helens > From: > > "Tim Callaghan" > Date: > > I would be interested to he
7. [LAOIS] Encumbered estates - Peter Gale [1]
Hi there, I have added an Encumbered Estate to the County Laois (IGP) website. The estate belonged to Peter GALE Esq. and encompassed Ashfield, Gale and Raheen Div. Encumbered estates were those which were sold due to debt. The tenants are listed. It was common to have a lease of "lives" which meant as long as the named people were alive the lease was in effect. It could be difficult to know when people had died so sometimes well known figures were named since their deaths were well known. The eldest c

11. Re: [LAOIS] DELANEY -Patrick, Dean of Down [1]
I did find it. Colonus means farmer. I discovered the Alumni Dublineses uses Latin terms for the father's occupation. It looked like Alumni Dublineses was the source for the bio I got from the Anglican Library. I don't know anything about your Thomas, but my gggrandmother came for Queens County and her name was Margaret Shelley. She married John O'Farrell (shortened to Farrell when they came to America). We have never been able to find any information on Shelley's from Queens. Does any of this sound familiar to you? 13. [LAOIS] Trinity College Dublin [1]
Just a note on the topic of Trinity College. A couple of people I did lookups for in Alumni Dublineses did not find their person or the book did not cover past the late 1800's when they had someone there. I was just told by a correspondent that she found a couple more titles: "One is known as List of Pupils who entered TCD 1706-1901. That consists of one fiche only. The number is 6035485. The other is known as Register of Alumni of TCD up to 1968. That one consists of 7 fiche. The number is 6035486."

18. Re: [LAOIS] NEWNHAM, Alfred,Queenstown, Ireland [1]
Ty, Laois was called Queens *County*. >From www.bartleby.com Queenstown (Ireland), "formerly called the Cove of Cork. The name was changed in 1850, out of compliment to Queen Victoria, when she visited Ireland with her husband, and created her eldest son Earl of Dublin. " So, it was in Cork. I only found one name like Newnham in my Griffith's Valuations CD: Index to Griffith's Valuation of Ireland, 1848-1864 Newnam, Eliza County : Cavan Parish : Kilmore Location : Rocks Regards, Christina Nort

20. [LAOIS] Hotmail accts. [1]
For the last week or more I have been seeing some odd bounces to Hotmail accts. In fact whole pages of them. I sent Hotmail a note just now but do not know what the problem is. Obviously if you have a hotmail acct you may not receive this warning but I thought I should try. After several bounces you will automatically be unsubbed from Rootsweb lists. I hope this will get through. You might consider an acct with another free internet provider like Yahoo.com if this continues. There are others. Again

22. [LAOIS] "Sent to school in England" (Abbeyleix, about 1845??) [1]
My family history consistently recounts that the "landlord" of my Conner / O'Connor 2x great grandfather, Michael O'Connor, sent Michael to England "to school" during the famine. Michael apparently shows up in the Birmingham, England census with some family members. Because he was a boilermaker in Boston in 1854, we think he is this "engineer": William CONNER Lodg(Head) M 30 M Farmers Labourer ----Ire Ann CONNER Wife M 34 F --- ----Ire John CONNER Lodg U 27 M Farmers Labourer ----Ire Michael CONNER L
