My ancestors (SCOTT FAMILY) came to Australia
from Caherconlish in Limerick.
The question is if I were to visit Ireland in the future and wanted to look
at the records for that village would I have to obtain permission beforehand
from the Bishop of Limerick?
Knowing this would save a lot of hassle later on.
The family were RC and that they came from Caherconlish Limerick is all I
have. Can anyone help here?

Hello all!
I'm looking for any information on the surname HINCHY
or HENCHY in Bulgaden, and most especially, for
information regarding the ancestors or descendants of
Patrick Henchy and Johanna Roche. They had three
daughters: Alice (1862-1948), Margaret (1859-1953),
and Bridget (1857-???). Alice and Margaret moved to
the U.S. and I am familiar with what happenned
thereafter. Does anyone know what became of Bridget?
Best regards,

It's looking good. I guess there's no need to reinvent the wheel as long as
you have links to the sites relating to Limerick, and that will be an
ongoing thing. Was Jack Reidy's page there?

Peg,
I have a map of Ireland and it does not show a Knocklong anywhere. That doesn't mean there wasn't one though.
There is a Knock (Clare), Knock (Mayo) and a Knockalongy up near Northern Ireland.

Eleanor, Firstly Limerick diocese is not an archdiocese, but comes under the
authority of the Archdiocese of Cashel & Emly, as do the other dioceses of
Munster. There are four Archdioceses in Ireland, mainly representing the
four Provincial divisions, with Armagh being the overall supreme authority
in Ireland. The web site www.limerickdiocese.org will list the parishes of
Limerick Diocese.

I just checked the Limerick Diocese site and the address Kevin posted is
the one they have on their site. I guess their webmaster made a mistake
if it doesn't work.

My files do not transfer easily into an e mail - where I actually have
separate columns on my original, the columns are lost and words run into one

should be obvious as to how any line runs. I leave the rest of the sorting
out to you, my apologies for that - but to edit the whole lot would take me
too much time right now.I am only making these posts because the t

Looking for info on Catherine Storen b. 1862/3 Ballingarry, her sister
Lillian b. 1864/5 and their parents Michael Storen & Catherine nee Bowen. I
have the "Ballingarry book" which has random Storen's and Bowen's, but the
author wasn't allowed access to Catholic records, so it didn't help much
(although very interesting in and of itself).

It's a bit south of Hospital. It is near the intersection of roads 515 and
513, almost into Tipperary.

I think you have mis-read the exchanges. The only parish records on
microfilm at the National Library that cannot be viewed are those of the
Archdiocese of Cashel & Emly. Included in this archdiocese are about 16?
parishes in the eastern part of the County of Limerick. The actual parishes
in the diocese of Limerick CAN be viewed with written prior permission from
the Bishop's diocesan office - one must state which parish registers one
need to view

Dear Bill, and Limerick Listers,
No Bill, "the people" have NO legal right to the actual records of the
Church, under the laws of Ireland. This principle is well established

They were married at Glin in 1866. Both were listed as being from Clogogh
which, I am told, is near Kilfergus Cemetery.
John's father is given as Michael O'Sullivan and Mary's as Patrick Carr.
I know when John was older he was a gate keeper at Glin Castle.
I don't know when Mary died. She was John's first wife and I believe he was
married three times. He died in the 1930s and is buried at Kilfergus
cemetery -- he wa

Hi Tony,
The information on the RC Parish came along with a map of Civil Parishes for
Limerick. The Civil Parish of Monagay is shown to be broken down into 2 RC
Parishes, Newcastle or Newcastlewest and Templeglantine, however after some
checking I found that Templeglantine was a part of Newcastle parish until
about 1861 (could be 1864).
Your right, the Griffith's Vaulation that had been transcribed, didn't show
the RC Parish.
I found the Griffith's Vaulation at:
http://www.geocities.com/jackreidy/grifintr.
The alternative spellings are because this it what it looks
like it could read. With script translation and different
people writing the original passenger lists, somtimes they were not the best
scribners, so the alternatives I gave on the list are my interpretation of
what the person wrote.
Therefore I gave possibilities of what the persons name
could be, just in case my first reading of it is incorrect.
If I couldn't decipher a letter at all I put a "?" in place of the letter.
Hi Padraig, I should have known to write to you!
Re: your statement:

Archives and prior to that that known as The Mid -Western Archives existed
before the Tipperary Heritage Unit (T.H.U.) - now temporarily closed - and

whole county...."
How does one find this Limerick Ancestry? Would I be better off writing to
them vs. St. Michael's directly?
Thanks,
Nancy

Have you come across her?
