Mac Lysaght has several different entries for the name and
its variants:
Guinee, Guiney {O in Kerry and Cork & Mac in Co.Cavan],
O'Geane, Geaney [with O {Co.Cork} & Mac {south Ulster}. He
gives the origin as the Gaelic word 'Geibheannach' [pr.
gayven-uck] meaning Fettered.

Yes I would like an answer too. Have information that money was sent to
Ireland for relatives to buy tickets to come over. My ggm was supposedly a
sponsor for many, and that she travelled back and forth to Ireland. Did the
sponsor also have to travel there to bring them here?

Hi there ,
My gggrandfather was Patrick John Finn b.approx1820 Bruff
Limerick.
On his marriage certificate 1854 in Western Australia to Margaret Devine he
states his father as Michael.
Patrick was sent to Australia as a convict.
Does anyone have any ideas how I may find Patrick or his relatives? Thanks.

Hello list, I was mildly surprised to see an O'Hare enquiry on the
Limerick list. Limerick isn't exactly known as O'Hare country. Griffith's
Valuation, < www.ireland. com/ancestor>, the genealogical site of the Irish Times
newspaper, shows that there were 571 O'Hare households in Ireland in mid-19th
century. The counties with the most O'Hares were Down 312, Armagh 120, and Louth
69. There were no O'Hares listed in Limerick. My O'Hares came from
Ballymascanlan in Louth and emigrated to Buffalo, N
A small correction: Where it reads "... and in St.Michael's
parish" substitute St.John's parish.
BTW., MacLysaght does not give Fennell as a variant of
Finan/Finnin/Finnan - he lists it as separate and distinct
name with origins in Co.Clare..

Elizabeth,
The Michael Culhane who is in our line did work for Kodac as a

sure if he went directly to Rochester or not. We are not doing research
on the Culhane line, however, since it was his wife's line that we are
researching.

May 22. 1917 obituary of BRIDGET GUINANE McEVOY (my gr-gr-grandfather JOHN GUINANE's sister): The deceased was born in Co. Limerick, Ireland, 87 years ago and she came to America while yet a child. She spent a number of years in Chicago, and later came west with the Father Tracy colony, locating in 1856 near Dakota City. She remained with the pioneers there several years and then came to Omaha.
She was united in mariage to JAMES McEVOY in Omaha in May, 1864, by Bishop O'Gorman....The deceased was the last
Hi List,
I have a bit of a puzzle I would like to put to you all. If anyone recognizes these places in Limerick City, could you give some info on them.
on 3 birth certificates:
Bridget O'Callaghan's address is Ballinacurra
Lizzie O'Callaghan's address is Spelassys Square
Michael O'Callaghan's address is Spelacys Square, Calooney St. and his father's address is listed as Castleconnell
All fathers are listed as William, occupation-waiter.

my credit cards account number online. Just don't trust that method, old
fashioned. Also use a CC which has a small limit so can't get used for large
amounts if stolen/used.

Hi Barb,
On item #18 on the Ellis Island Ship Manifest list it states, "Whether going
to join a relative or friend-if so name and address." This information was
obtained from the immigrant and recorded. I believe that the immigrant had to
have a sponsor to be accepted.

Hi Rita
Stonehall was the old name. It was later changed to Kilcornan. Dr Chris
O'Mahoney told me that if my ancestors were in Kilcornan there was a strong
chance that they worked for Aubrey de Vere, as Curraghchase was in that
Parish. My g grandfather gave his birthplace as Curragh, which took some
untangling. My BRIDGMANs and DWYERs came from there, and I believe they are
linked to the Askeaton BRIDGMANs but have been unable to prove it. The name
Peter keeps recurring and that was my Grandfather's name.
Ballinacurra is the name of a townland within the municipal
boundaries of the city ; it is at the southern end of the
city.
Spellacy Square had the reputation of being the smallest
square in the city. It is quite near Collooney Street ( now
Wolfetone St.). Both are near the present army barracks,
not far from the northern extremity of Ballinacurra.
The village of Castleconnell is a few miles north of the
city adjacent to the river Shannon.

Now how can I find out the address of the Immaculate Conception and the parish priest
Also what is the protocol for asking for this information - do you send money as a donation?

You mention something that I lost track of concerning U.S. immigration procedure. It could be of considerable help if true and there is a researchable info base. I refer to a requirement for immigrants to the U.S. to have a sponsor. When did that become effective? I'm sure that many of us have been curious what brought our ancestors from Ireland to specific areas in the U.S. I would appreciate any help. Thank you. Jim Clarkson

Dear Pat
I wrote snail mail which is a 3 day airmail from UK

This is the longest wait..all credit cards in UK carry a #1.50

I have ordered them for several members and others over 120
certificates in 3 years...I always give them email and phone
