1. 1901 Monaghan census - Muckno parish [1]
I am trying to figure out which 1901 Monaghan census film to order and can't seem to figure out which one and am hoping someone out there can help me. My ancestor William Thompson, was born in Tullynageer, in county Monaghan which is in the parish of Muckno. There are 4 film numbers listed for this parish. Associated with each film number is a description such as "census nos 26/11-18,20". Can anyone tell me what these numbers relate to or how I might determine which film would contain Tullynageer?
2. THOMPSON/BIRCH [1]
I am researching the THOMPSON family of county Monaghan in the mid 1800's. William Thompson was born Jan 25 in Tullynageer, Monaghan , to James THOMPSON and Mary BIRCH. William was one of 8 children born to James and Mary. William also had 13 other half-siblings as James was married a second time (second wife's name unknown). Does anyone out there have any connections to this family? I realize the information is sparse but I'm just starting to research this family. Regards Miriam in Winnipeg, Ca
3. [IRLMON] Roll Call: CRANSTON [1]
James CRANSTON (1785 - 1853) stated in his naturalization petition that he was born in Co. Monaghan. He is the eldest son of John CRANSTON (1760 - 1823), my 5-great grandfather. John and his family emigrated to the U.S. in 1802. John's father is expected to be named James based on the Scots/Irish naming rule. William CRANSTON of eastern Co. Tyrone had a son Archdeacon John CRANSTON (ABT 1676 - 1762) of the diocese of Clogher of the Church of Ireland, who was seated in Tedavnet in western Co. Monaghan. The
4. RE: Flax Growers Martin [0.987329]
Hi all, Thanks, Al, for the Flax growers list of Martins. I have Martins in Carrickmacross, Magheross, Farney. They were farmers, but I don't know what kind. The only one listed in Farney is a Thomas, but I don't go back that far so I don't know if he is my line. I do know that Martin is a VERY common name in Ireland, like Smith and Jones. My Grandfather Patrick was from Mullaghboy, Carrickmacross, son of Peter and Anne (Flanagan) Martin, son of Michael and Bridget (Keenan) Martin. Perhaps Michael's fathe

12. WEIR [0.987329]
Hi everyone I am slowly piecing this family together, but still have not been able to establish a location within Co Monaghan from which they came. Happy to share info with anyone who finds a connection: Lancelot WEIR and his wife Margaret and at least two children, Mary b. 1828 and Robert b. 1830 emigrated to Canada in 1837 and settled in Hamilton Township, Northumberland County (just north of what is now Cobourg, Ontario). There are several WEIR families in the area in the 19th century censuses, so some

14. Irish Records - Civil - Birth, Marriage and Death [0.987329]
Civil Registration of marriages began in 1845 for non- Catholics. During 1844 it became law that non Catholic marriages would be registered civilly. It was ruled that they would take place in a church during the morning and that the officiating clergyman was responsible for registration of this marriage. In 1863, this law was amended to include the marriages of Catholics. The responsibility for civil registration of the marriage then fell to the husband and no longer the clergyman. The amendment did not

18. Errigal Trough Civil Parish:C of I records [0.987329]
John Grenham does not list any of the following from what I can make out in his Tracing your Irish Ancestors : 1st Edition which lists Protestant parish records. I don't think you will find many if any of these outside the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland, but at least posting them makes people aware of their existence and the dates covered. If you think that you should be able to find information on your ancestors in any of these parish records and the dates listed here do not cover the period yo

This may be misleading, but there is a tiny place called Swan's Cross in Monaghan, sometimes called Swan's Crossroads. My Swann ancestors once lived in the area. Maybe a connection? Anita
20. Church Records [0.987329]
CHURCH RECORDS The most important source of information for the genealogist is parish records. However, there is much confusion concerning the existence or availability of Irish Church records. The first problem is to identify which records exist for a particular area and the period covered. The parish is an administrative unit, be it ecclesiastical or civil. In general, the Church of Ireland parish boundaries follow those of the civil parish, but in the 18th and 19th centuries new parishes were formed
