Hello Ken, I hope I'm not thehundreth person to e-mail you re: Immigration
and the Palatine Refugees.
The link takes you to the correct website but the apparently there is an
error in the URL. Is there anyway this can be brought to the attention of
the BBC?
I'm in Alberta, Canada but am very interested in this as there is hardly any
info on the Palatines ti Ireland. I'm interested in the Switzer family..some
of whom married Teskeys.

The marriage cert states that Mary Anne Fitzell was the daughter of

Perhaps, like me, you missed yesterday's UK BBC Radio 4 programme, "The Long View". It discussed the 1709 Palatine immigration into the UK and linked it to more recent immigration issues. You can see information about the programme on the BBC's website at the following address. This shows source material, and should allow you to listen to the programme, although I am having difficulty downloading it.

Hello Gladys,
No apology necessary...! It's IP family information with a bit of your
particular family history. For that reason it was entirely appropriate
to post it to our wonderful list, Gladys.
Thanks for sharing...

How pleased I was to see the discussion of the Glazier line. My gg-grandfather John Glazier (said to be born in Dublin, Ire.) married Anne Bovanizer in 1860. I have very little early info on them, other than their first child was born in the US in 1868.
As a lifelong resident of Western New York State (US), I have to note these points about geography and the Erie Canal. The Erie (or Barge ) Canal runs from Albany to Buffalo, NY, US. It passes thru Orleans County, NY just north of the city of Albion. M

Hi Gladys
I managed to access the site ok but then I'm in the UK so maybe that makes a
difference.
I'm originally an 'Alberta Switzer' but don't recognise your name. Are you
a Switzer who happened to end up in Alberta or are we related? Have you
posted your Switzers on the IP list or the Switzer list?

I certainly agree with Brenda. As a result of the post by Gladys I think

Good evening,
I would like to apologize to the list for sending letters to the list that should have been send privately.
I hit the wrong button, please forgive.
Regards, Gladys
Marcus Sparling married Catherine Connolly in Athlone, Roscommon, Ireland
1849. Their sons, Omar b. 1855, and Alfred b. 1854 were born in London,
England. I don't know if they had other children.
Omar married Mary Veronica Lynch and was living in New York City in 1900. I
don't know when he emigrated to the states or whether any other members of
his family came over.
Omar and Mary had three children while living in New Rochelle NY, late
1890's: Florence, Esther, and Archibald.
I have no other info
They have been well researched & a genealogical book published,
but it was sold out before I knew about it. Many settled in Dundas Co.
My g.g.grandfather was one of them.

Hi Gladys in Alberta
I have some Switzer blood in me (g..grandmother was Margaret Switzer Embury Lawrence b1743 Court Martix Ireland d1807 Augusta Ontario married to my g..grandfather John Lawrence Sr. b1742 Ballingrane Ireland d1822 Augusta Ont). I don't have too much info on Switzers after Margaret's period but if you have some specific questions I might be able to steer you.

Hi Terry, Thanks for the note. If you're an Alberta Switzer how did you end
up living across the pond?
Yes, I guess you could say I ended up in
Alberta, descended from Switzer great grandparents. I'll explain:
My maternal grandmother had Switzer grandparents on both sides of her
family.
Her father's mother was Eliza Switzer born 1822 in Tipperary who married
George Oliver Hanna in Ontario. I can't tell you for certain who her parents
were..I always thought she was the first child of Samuel Switzer (1791-

Dear Martin,
Many thanx for the info from the cc. of your gr-parents' marriage
certificate. Indeed, the
details concerning witness Mary A Fitzell, Mary Jane Fitzell (ak/a
"Janie"), & Samuel Fitzell is of interest to me, as my gr-mother's maiden
name was Mary Ann (May/Mae) FITZELL, altho her Palatine family was of
Tarbert, Co. Kerry, family home: Blackbriar, rather than your family
Barkman or Shire home in Rathkeale Registrar's District, & Askeaton

Also interesting that Mary Jane Fitzell (ak
