1. How do I.. [1]
Hello. Where is the best place to start? My great grandfather was born in Westmeath in 1837, He married a Mary ?, 1838-1926, also from Westmeath. The family moved to Geashill, Philipstown, Offaly, where they are in the 1901 Census. There are 2 children that I know of (birth dates 1873 and 1875) Can I get birth certificates for these and a wedding certificate for Edward and Mary? I wrote to the Westmeath Heritage Centre with no response. Thank you Barbara
2. RE: [IRL-WESTMTH] Re: How do I.. [1]
I am looking for information on my ancestor, Edward Lamb, who was born in Westmeath County in 1831. He emigrated to the US when about 20 years old and settled in Rutland, Vermont where he married Bessie Hanlon in 1854. In 1856, they moved to Edgerton, Wisconson and raised their family there. He died on May 25, 1905 in Evansville, Wisconsin and is buried in the Stone Schoolhouse Cemetery. I have no information about his parents and siblings in Ireland and would appreciate any help. Thanks! Linda Wagner

The first thing you should do is put your gr-grandfather's surname in your email. Who knows where a link might be lurking? Plus, if someone happens to have a piece of information you need, they wont know unless the surname is listed. The best thing is to put that surname in caps in your title! The next thing is to try the search engine on the Westmeath webpage. There may be information listed on the site for your persons. Kathy
5. ANDERSON-GEOGHEGAN / MOYCASHEL [1]
My great grandmother's brother, THOMAS ROBERT ANDERSON , was born in Moycashel, Jan. 7, 1843. Have yet to find a record of my great grandmother, JANE ANDERSON REYNOLDS', birth place or date--probably 1850's ...............or a record of birth or date for Jane and Thomas' half sister, MARY ANN(E) GEOGHEGAN--figure 1860's. On Jane's death certificate (NY-1907), her parents are listed as JOHN and ELLEN ANDERSON. The parish register in 1873, at the time of Jane's marriage in Co. Galway, reco

Dear Barbara, Just a tip that you will find useful. Always mention your surname. Who knows who might read your e-mail - someone researching the very same name. Everytime you don't mention it you miss a great opportunity. Good luck from Irene of Seattle (researching Igoe's, Westmeath - see the crafty way I worked my name in). ----- Original Message ----- From: "tesco.net" To: Sent: Wednesday, May 17, 2006 2:41 PM Subject: How do I.. > Hello. Hi Linda, In my notes about Westmeath I have 2 mentions of the name Lamb. Both are from Killucan. I have a marriage of (no first name) Lamb and Bets Kelly in 1853 and a Hugh Lamb being a sponsor to the birth of Anne Hynes in 1870. Both of these records were taken from the Killucan Catholic parish and both are probably too late to be your Lamb relative, but maybe you can use this information to help make some other inquiries. Good luck. Jane

19. COLGAN IRL-WESTMEATH [1]
Researching Colgan family from near Mullingar, Westmeath, Ireland. My great-grandfather's name was Thomas Colgan. Four of his children were John (born about 1859?); Mary (born about 1861); Anna E. (born 29 March 1862) and Matthew Vincent (born 11 November 1864). They left Dublin June 9th, 1869 and arrived in New York on or about June 18, 1869. All I know is they lived "near" Mullingar. Is anyone else researching this Colgan name? I would love to hear from you. Barbara
