Hello Biddy,
I would appreciate a lookup for any Keating family related to James Keating, Bishop of Ferns,
abt. 1820 - 1849. A G-Grandfather's nephew's obit reported he was a "gr. nephew" of the
Bishop. If that's correct, then GG-Grandmother Anne Keating Ward's father was a brother of
the Bishop, whose father's name may have been Michael. See my Rootsweb Keating page
for more info.

Thank you kindly!

Thanks, that's fantastic, I didn't realise that they had computerised some
of the indexes. It looks like my Michael Tobin and Bridget Dempsey married
in 1858, but I think I'll wait until I can get to the National Library, so
much more exciting finding the record yourself!
Thanks again
Vicki

Hi,
It was about 5 years ago if that's any consolation :-)
I think the problem is when you're looking through parish registers, that
it's clearly easy to miss the name you're looking for, as I did. I was
convinced there wasn't a single Peter Tobin with a father Michael in the
whole of Wexford, but the database search proved me wrong. You might find
that if they married in 1839 that they come from a parish that the registers
don't go far enough back in. My Clare family only start appearing in parish
Hi Vicki, have you looked at this site

My ancestor Peter TOBIN married Bridget DOYLE in Gorey, Wexford in 1886.
They lived in Dublin and he died in the 1930s. From his marriage

Quite a bit of information about DOYLE in the book - about 3 1/2 pages. I

DOYLE is one of the most numerous surnames in Co. Wexford, as well as in the
adjoining counties of Carlow and Wicklow. The name is derived from the Irish
O'Dubhghaill (descendant of the dark stranger). As Dubhghall it appears in
the Annals of the Four Masters at various dates between 978 and 1013.
Dr. MacLysaght tells us in his `Irish Families' that the family is not
included in the great Gaelic genealogies, which supports the traditional b

Vicki, I wish I had known you would be trawling through records concerning
Wexford. I have been searching for Alice Earl who married George
Stacey/Stacy/Steacy. I have been searching for years and all I know is that
were married in1839 and probably came to the United States in 1854. You
might have seen there names mentioned in your search. Their daughter, Mary
Jane Stacey, said she was from CountyWexford but no one remembers that she
mentioned an area, just theCounty. I keep hoping!

HI-
I am researching my HENDRICK ancestors who left Wexford in 1851 to go to
Connecticut USA.
Elizabeth Hendrick born 1795 daughter of Hugh & Polly Hendrick
Elizabeth Hendrick born 1833
Mary Elizabeth Hendrick born 1841
James Hendrick born about 1849
Elizabeth's husband was James but I don't think he came to USA.
I have read about the book "Ten Generations of The Hendricks of Mount
Leinster" but don't know where to find it to see if I can trace the family.
I wrote to Mr. Hilary Murphy last year to see i

You write or quote in part: "a descendant of one of the Norsemen who settled
in Ireland in pre-Norman times" and "When the Normans took Wexford, they
settled most of the Danes in the places now known as Rosslare and
Ballymore, where the majority of them followed their old pursuit of

the common Wexford name Doyle - meaning `dark stranger' - is supposed to
have been applied to them.'
That is quite true - as stated by the so
Biddy,
When you find the time, could you please look up DOYLE in your "Families of Wexford" book. My John Doyle was born abt 1824. He said that he was from Conna Hille, near the town of Gorey in County Wexford. It is presumed that he was Catholic.
Thank you.

the 1901 and 1911 census, his marriage certificates and death certificate he
was born between 1860 and 1866 in County Wexford.
