If there is anyone like myself who has an interest in all things trivial
then this mailing list is for you - it covers poems / recipes / rhymes
/traditions and culture. It was constructed to keep such topics off
genealogy mailing lists and thus avoiding the clutter which happens from
time to time.

Dear All particularly Thomas and Mary Lou,
In Carisbrooke in 1664 Willliam Whittington was charged 2d for 1 hearth.
There is a certificate later in the book to say that the charge had been
collected.
In Bradinge in 1664 there was a Best (first name blank) who was charged 6d
for 3 hearths.
Bye for now,
Ann.
Hullo fellow listers,
Could be a greeting exchanged on the Titanic I suppose.

Nunns Lacemakers were actually Nunns - Tuckers Lacemakers they had
several branches on the mainland. I might have some info somewhere. I
thought there might have been a connection with my Tucker family but
there isn't.
My family didn't leave IOW for Aust , they went around 1900 to London.

my grandmother had double pneumonia and was told a move would be
beneficial for her health. Rather drastic move. Although she ended up

Hi agian,
GREAT to see so much mail! I'd also like to wish you all a very Merry
Christmas and a BIG thankyou to Ann for all her patient help. I am also
looking forward to Northwood school reports. It's interesting to note
that not many of us seem to have a strong genealogical link with Cowes /
Yarmouth. My lot didn't seem to venture past Cowes / Yarmouth / Newport
( when they were on dry land).
I have a few loose ends which I want to post and appeal for any
descendants to come forward ( if game - ha) . I

Hi Everyone
Wonderful to see so many messages, containing our interests. Just to
help everyone - please put the surnames you are researching into the
subject line, using CAPITAL LETTERS, and stop using the words "Roll Call"
(unless you are looking for families called "Roll" and "Call" !!).
Kind regards

LAKE.
This rising village has been described as "Lake-on-Sea,"
but that is exactly what it is not. With the exception of
the Convalescent Home, it is scarcely seen from the sea, and
an unobservant stranger might walk along the cliff-top a
dozen times without suspecting the existance of the place,
though a footpath leads to it across the railway. It is
included for local government purposes with Sandown.
An alternative route to Lake is via the new road from
Sandown Station. This avoids Lake Hill,
Here are a few names of people employed at the Lace factory. In this area
of Newport, (it came under the Whippingham parish census), almost every
other person was in one of these trades.......Dressmaker/Tailor/Glove
maker. Thinking about it, did they mean lace parts of the dresses or lace
gloves. They probably worked for the factory as well.
from the 1851 census:-
Henry BOARD. head. 47. Lace Maker (Silk) born Winchester.
from the 1861 census:-
Wm Henry BOARD. head. 57. Silk Block Maker. born Winchester
G'day All,
Seasons Greeting & Happy New Year to all.
My research is for David Thomas WITCHER, my ggrandfather, said to have
been born on the Isle by his daughter, my grandmother, to my father,
after a trip by him to the Isle in late 1940's when acting as pall
bearer for an airforce pilot. My father saw his mother's family name in
cemetery visited for funeral, probably in Newport.
Regards,
Chris Wyatt, in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia.

They should see p. 233 of INSULA VECTA by S F Hockey, Phillimore, 1982,
ISBN 0 85033 394 6. It gives some info on this surname in 1583, etc.
Hello...I have just received one of my ggg-grandfathers, ROBERT BURT, death
certificate. It says that ELIZABETH NASH, was present at his death. This
occurred in 1882 at 12 Royal Exchange, Whippingham. I have not found that he
had a daughter named Elizabeth and was wondering if anyone is searching NASH
that can hook them up somehow. Have a wonderful weekend....I am buried under
