The /Mona's Isle/ was a two-masted flat built by Joseph Ford at Douglas,
Isle of Man. She was launched in 1835 and was owned by Barrow's James

The /Mona's Isle/ was lost off Piel Island in July 1867.
A vessel called the /Mona's Isle/ appeared very frequently in the
notebooks of Barrow shipbroker William Gawith. She was described as

Hi Linda and Tony,
Thanks for that, a view I had not seen before.
I have visited the Hall which is now converted into apartments after
previously being used as a hotel.
A great uncle was a coachman at the hall in the 1871 census return and I now
know that he was living in Stickworth Cottage.
It does help,
John

With all the information regarding the above areas just thought would advise
that the LDS have a microfilm of the Primitive Methodists registers for IOW
and they are for the area of Arreton, Wooton, and Whippingham. One has to
look for it under the name of Primitive Methodist Church and not Methodist
Church.
My husband has looked at the film and found some relatives as well as some
possibles.

Hello List!
Has anyone any connection to:
James DENHAM = Mary COOPER married 4/1/1816 Wootton
They are my gx3 grandparents.
I know they had a large family, my line is from son Henry Palmer DENHAM.
Happy to share anything I have.

In the 1871 census I have found William G Parcell living at Stickworth
Cottage, IOW.
Can anyone please give me an idea where the cottage might have been please?
I know that William's father worked at Stickworth Hall so I expect the
cottage would be nearby.
Thanks,
John Noakes, Aldershot

No sign of Myrtle Cottage in the High Street I'm afraid.
As for 6 cottages at Whippingham, I think I was probably correct, drove past
them on Christmas Eve, and there are (or at least were as originally built)
6 small terraced cottages.

Well they are not my NEWNHAM's (haven't made a connection yet) but I do have
some information on them. William NEWNHAM (baker) married Emma FORD 25th
December 1865, The independent Chapel, West Cowes. William's father was
Charles NEWNHAM (baker), Emma's father Benjamin FORD (general labourer.
Can fill you in on their children if it helps you.

Thanks for the compliments Eileen, and Mary Lou!
I started the website more than a year ago, with two friends, mainly to make the transcriptions of the grave stones available to more people. Janette and I think we are doing quite well with the transcribing, until we look up at see what else needs to be done.
The website covers a whole lot of other information too, from the history of the development of the site, to the natural history, and details of some of the people buried there.

I am searching for Emma and Sarah Duffey who both appear on the 1851 census at the House of Industry aged 15 and 16 yrs. Can anyone tell me what might have happened to them. Would they have stayed there until they possibly married?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

its in the High Street, I can't be sure where Myrtle Cottages were/are, I'll

Six Cottages, Whippingham - can't be positive, but there is a row of
terraced cottages in Whippingham on the right hand side of Brocks Copse Road
going towards Wootton. On the 1871 census they were recorded between the

Chris,
Thanks for the input.
I believe your website entry is a description of St Edmund's, Wootton.
Thanks also to the several people who answered my original query both on and
off list, in particular Alex McGowan for some precise information, and Jon
Baker for so much fascinating background.
The upshot of all this, in case anyone is still interested, is that it seems
that Wootton Bridge was never an ecclesiastical parish in its own right.
Until 1925 it was part of Arreton parish. Arreton parish was geog

I hate to give any false info but I am sure I remember a Hillyards being
part of Ryde, I seem to remember it was a fairly big shops' address.
This was back in the 1950s when I was little so I cannot place where;
perhaps it was just the shops name?

Perhaps I can help a bit, but this is all based on memory and my own
experiences as a former resident of Wootton.
The Parish of Wootton was a very small parish based around the "Manor House"
(known today as Wootton Farm". There were only a few dozen parishioners, and
a significant amount of these lived in detached parts around the village of
Chillerton which is several miles away (hence my Great Grandmother Minnie
Ryall was born in the parish of Wootton, but in fact was born in
Chillerton). The paris
