3. [Italy] SIR JAMES GRAY [1]
Can anybody give me details of the best place to search for births in Naples around 1760?. There is a portrait of SIR JAMES GRAY handed down through the family here in Australia and I'm trying to find our connection back to him. The portrait was painted in Italy in 1761. I gather he was Envoy to Napels 1754-1760 and made Knight of the Bath in 1761 which is when the painting was done. Up until recently I was under the impression that he never married but have now found on the Internet mention of him havi

5. [Italy] Impt. Rpt Available on WWII Violations [1]
The Department of Justice Report to the United States Congress on Italian American Civil Rights Violations during W.W.II is now available in a PDF file on the below web site. It is a very large file and might take a while to download. http://www.house.gov/judiciary/Italian.pdf It is interesting reading, but if you decide to print the report it is about 600 pages. 6. Re: [Italy] Sites [1]
Hi OLDFUDYDUD. I stand corrected and I tried your site. Thank you VERY much. Now if I could just find the Catholic churches and records for "STURLA and BRIZZALARA " ITALY I'd be in business. Those are the names of my gr grandparents. Is there a site for the churches - and a site to find surnames in these areas? I really am happy with this site and I thank you again. Shirl P.S. I don't know the names of my gr gr grandparents. Any suggestions? Thanks again. ----- Original Message ----- From: OLDF

8. [Italy] Cookie Recipe - Crostele or Crostoli [1]
My great-grandmother from Rotzo in Vicenza province (Veneto Region)used to make a cookie at Christmas time that she called Crostele (this was how she spelled it on her recipe that she wrote out for me). I have laminated the recipe now to preserve her handwriting on it. It is a fried cookie that is dusted with either sugar or powdered sugar after it is fried. Since she made them in such large quantities so that they would last throughout the year, she mostly used the sugar coating except on the ones we wo
9. RE: [Italy] Free Ancestry.com Software [1]
Hi Fred, Thanks for letting us know about the new software. I don't consider it inappropriate to let the list know about anything that is free and directly relates to helping us organize our genealogy research better. I'm glad you are enjoying the beautiful weather in South Florida. It has been seasonally warm here in Pittsburgh but we could sure use some more sun. 10. [Italy] I'm next, Fred... [1]
A relative of mine makes an Italian fried "pastry", too, but have never had the recipe. Apparently it has flour, sugar and wine (probably a few other ingred. too). Once the dough is formed, it's rolled out about 1" thick, and about as long as a wooden spoon. She cut them into little chunks and fried them. Once cooled, she dipped them in honey. She called them "wine things". Any ideas on these? Thank you
11. [Italy] Off Topic - Language help [1]
Hello All, Could someone help me with a single Italian word, that I believe has been Americanized. The word is "Wandi". It is a fried cookie and comes from the Naples area (north/northeast). It is the oldest recipe in our family cookbook. The problem is that there is no "W" in Italian, so I am assuming it has been Americanized before it was written down. Any help? I will gladly trade the recipe for some help. (smile) Before you get too excited it is a tradtional, low sugar cookie. Later, Tom -- Th

LISTERS: This isn't allowed but we are all interested in our Ancestors. I tried the free download to compare with my: PAF-3 and 5 which I keep handy. (LDS) Ancquest: Which I use for all my Pictures (Over 1500) Family Tree Maker which wants money for everything and I don't recommend it to anyone. Ancestry.Com is new and A-1. It connects right to the pictures and the Lists. It is free and they have interesting things. It is similar to all above which stole the idea from PAF. Please don't cuss me out b

Hi Sharon, I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong . . . but I think it is the same basic recipe. My mom also makes her's like a nugget instead of forming them to be like a knot. She also sometimes adds items to the batter like raisins and nuts. Hi, Would this mean that American Italians who's surname starts with "W", would start with "Gu" in Italian? I know a family by the name of Wante, would this be Guanti in Italian possibly.
