I am new to this list, looking for my great-grandfather Federico Ughelli, I know very little, only that he was born in Italy around 1850 and went o Paraguay where he lived the rest of his life. I have no idea where to start looking.

I would like to obtain some advice or oppinions on the following special
case:
In the church registers of Giershagen, a small town in Westfalia, I
found the following information:
Johann Anton RAMSPOTT (* Dec. 23rd 1787) "non obiit, sed vivit in Friaul
in Austrio" (means: "didn't dy [til now], but lived in Friaul in
Austria"; the notice is not dated). Friaul belonged to the Habsburg
Empire that time. I have no further information on the destiny of that
person, not ev

My husband's grandfather was Giuseppe Locantore born in Tursi, Italy in
1893.
When he came to America in 1911, he changed his name to Sando, yes, Joe
Sando because he wanted to be an 'American'. He was very proud of his name
Sando also.
I've also found in my genealogy research on the internet that other
nationalities change the spelling of their last names or choose another name
altogether.
