Hello to everybody reading this, I would like to obtain some advice or oppinions on the following special case: In the church registers of Giershagen, a small town in Westfalia, I found the following information: Johann Anton RAMSPOTT (* Dec. 23rd 1787) "non obiit, sed vivit in Friaul in Austrio" (means: "didn't dy [til now], but lived in Friaul in Austria"; the notice is not dated). I would say, yes, that it is possible that he changed his name. My husband's grandfather was Giuseppe Locantore born in Tursi, Italy in 1893. When he came to America in 1911, he changed his name to Sando, yes, Joe Sando because he wanted to be an 'American'. He was very proud of his name Sando also. I've also found in my genealogy research on the internet that other nationalities change the spelling of their last names or choose another name altogether.
