I can prove my JENKINS line back to JOHN JENKINS born abt. -1702 VA. died 1774 Bertie Co. NC. with wife ANNE. His great grandson (1-John,2-James) John JENKINS and wife Marina GODWIN went to Madison Co. AL. by at least 1822. Tammy, Please add this to your Jenkins webpage and be sure to send us the URL for the page. Elizabeth Jenkins was born May 1814 in Culpepper, VA. Married Jonathan Shoemaker, March 9, 1829. Died in Whitley Co., IN, April 17, 1892 at the age of 77 years and 11 months. Her mother died in1816. She also lived in OH. Diana Gildner dgteach@aol.com

Who were the parents of Sallie JENKINS b. 1875 LA She married in 1888 in Hardin Co., TX to Jim (James ?) R. WEST b. 1861 LA. You guessed it, I don't know his parents either. In the 1900 census for Tyler Co., TX, Sallie and J. R. are living as boarders with William Jenkins b. 1865 MS. Possibly he is an older brother. William Jenkins wife is deceased, she was born in TX and the names of the children were: (first letter undecipherable) possibly Danniel, Jackson, Emma and Sam Jenkins The children of J. R.

My Jenkins line is in Dane County, Wisconsin from 1850 to current, then in Bangor, Maine for 1826 to 1850 and continuing, in New Hampshire (mostly Lee, NH) from 1826 back to the 1600's. Anyone in the same areas? Kathleen Jenkins

There were two unrelated (as far as we can tell) THOMAS JENKINS families in Lauderdale County AL circa 1820-1850. Jean Shanelec researches one of these families and Amy Gilreath researches the other. A brief summary of each follows: Thomas Jenkins #1 married Mary Miles Eppler/Apler, probably in VA or TN. She died in 1822 and he died in Jan 1823 in Lauderdale Co. AL. In his will, Thomas asks that the children's grandfather, John Epler, act as their guardian. Children: Elizabeth Jenkins m. 1825 Ria

My husband's greatgrandfather was born in Harpers Ferry VA. I'm not sure where that is in relation to culpepper. his name was John Mathais Jenkins, b. 1817 married Mary Catherine Harper, she was born in 1826, He died in La Grange, IN. they had 5 children, John Wesley, b. 1855, Mary b. 1853, William b. 1854, Rachel b. 1856, these children were born in Harpers Ferry, VA They moved to Indiana about 1858 as they had one son born in Ohio named Oscar . They settled in Eddy, Rome City, and Wolcotville, IN.

Joan; Do you know who John's parents were and where they came from? I have a George BENTLEY JENKINS he was born Bristol England 1836. His mother was ELIZA ? and I noted that your John's first daughter was ELIZA........His father was also George JENKINS. I have the info on GEORGE BENTLEY JENKINS and descendants but not the ancestry. I don't have any info re: Herman Jenkins. But my wife's ancestor, Reynold Jenkins came from the Isle of Man (just off of the coast of Wales) in 1632 to Berwick, Maine. He was a Quaker. It is possible that Herman could be a descendant. Most of the family for 2-3 generations live in Maine. But soon they were spreading all over the US. Wayne (husband of Mary Lou Jenkins) Lawton

Toni, Saw your reply of 6/20/97 . You indicated your name Jenkins came from Junkin. I am researching the name Jenkins also. I am trying to find information on Elvira Jenkins who lived in Harrison Co., Ohio in the 1860's. Elvira married Phillip Jolley. They had a daughter named Ella Mae who married Clarence Junkin. Clarence and Ella Mae were my great grandparents. I have traced my Junkin line back to Joseph Junkin who was born in Ireland and came to this country in 1735. He settled near Carlisle, Pa. Ha

Am trying to track down an article which told of the torturous journey, mostly by foot as I recall, of John JENKINS of Luray, Shenandoah Co., VA to Clinton Co., OH and later on to Champaign Co., OH. Did find reference to the article. It was in a hstory of Champaign Co., OH. It mentioned John JENKINS and Mary "Polly" BURKHOLDER brought their 11 children with them. I know 2 were Morgan L. I wanted to touch base with you because a branch of my Jenkins tree seems to have made it to Lauderdale County. We have a John W. JENKINS b. abt 1811, Virginia m. Jane MITCHELL b. abt 1812 lived Union Twp, Champaign Co., OH. Family tradition says that he came with brothers to Champaign Co.
