Hi everyone, and hi Michael!
It's odd to be sitting this side of the fence!
I began Johnson-UK because (perhaps naively) I hoped that there would be
lots of interaction and chitchat between members that might ultimately have
led to me finding my Johnsons. That didn't happen, but I am not giving up! I
don't think anyone else should, either. We are spread to the four corners of
the UK but we still may find family members among our individual research.
I am still looking for James Stuart Johnson with wife R

Hello Scott
Do you have the details of William Johnson in the 1901 Census
if so what are they?
Have you got his details in earlier census entries 1871, 1881, 1891?
Have you got his Army records WW1? and earlier service?
Have you any details on William Sebastopol Stevens?
Sebastopol was a battefield of the 1850's Crimean War
Do you think there may be a earlier serviceman in the family?
Can you detail William Johnson's CWGC memorial entry
regards
Michael

Hello all,
I have a hit a brick wall with my Johnson line.
I am looking for the family of William Johnson, born in the mid-1860s, in
Leamington, Warwickshire. He was in the British Army for 12 years, and then
settled near Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. He was killed in France in WWI at the
age of 50.
According to his marriage certificate, his father was a bricklayer named
Thomas. He also claimed to have a stepbrother (William Sebastopol Stevens).
Any Johnson connections in Warwickshire or Wales?
Thanks,
Sc

Hello listers.
This list has about 100 members but is one of the quietest lists of that
size I know of.
So I am taking this opportunity to Ask members to consider being in a Roll
call.
Tell us about your research interests in the Johnson family in the UK. Who
are you
having trouble trying to find. What Census, BDM, Parish church entries,
Churchyard
memorials, Wills, Militia Rolls, Service records in Navy, Army etc for any
period.
are you searching for?
Where in the UK are your Johnson family lines from
Thanks for your suggestions. I found him in the 1901 census living in the
Rhondda valley in Wales, and he would have been in India in 1891 with the
army. I can't find him on the earlier census records. I also looked for a
marriage between his "stepmother" (Hannah Stevens) and a Thomas Johnson, but
nothing came up.
I have a suspicion that "William Johnson" may have been an alias that he
adopted when he joined the army.
I was at the National Archives in Kew in September, and went through two

Hi
Not posted before, so here goes!
My Johnsons are from Audley in Staffordshire. My Grandad was Thomas Elijah Johnson born 1st Jan 1871 Boon Hill, Audley, Staffordshire, says on his marriage certificate to my gran Fanny Knott (2nd Marriage - 1st to Emily Pennells) that his father was Isaac Johnson but on birth cert it has mother Emma Johnson & no father. I have found him on 1871 census with his grandfather Isaac (born 1825) but cannot find his mother anywhere. Since my mother was only 11 when he died she

Hi Scott
I don't know how much (or what) you have done to find the family. If you
haven't already done so, I suggest your first approach should be to obtain
the birth certificate for William Sebastopol Stevens. He was born in the
September quarter of 1856 in Warwick registration district (Warwick 6d 403)
That will give you his parents. You will then need to search for the
marriage of his mother to a Thomas Johnson. There is a Sarah Stevens who
married a Thomas Johnson in the right area in June quarter 187
Still looking for anyone who has possible links to the Johnson family of St.
Lukes, particularly the Whitecross Street area.
My g.ggrandfather was John Johnson or Johnston b. 1823 and died after 1863
and before 1886. He was in the military and married Mary Connors abt 1848
possibly in Ireland.
Many thanks
Marion

Hi Everyone

(H0107/641) has David 35 years old, an Ag Lab., and "born in same county"
(this being the only census that does not say he was born in Hull). The 1861
census of Partney, Lincolnshire (folio 86)
