need to know who James parents were, aunts and uncles, if
known..........before we can figure out any relationships.....
(from the Butler County, Ohio Joyce family).. There are a lot of Joyces
out there from various parts of Ireland. Some of us have been stateside for
a couple of hundred years, others longer, and still others, just in the last
century. I have had conversations with several dozen Joyce families in the
last ten years, and some of them were related and others were not.

Sorry, but none of your information seems to fit in my charts. My family
seems to stem way back in the U.S. from ??????. They were in VanLeer Tennessee
and I think originally from N. Carolina. Married into the Hayes family of
Tennessee. Good Luck in your search. If anything rings a bell please feel free to
contact me. Any information I have will be gladly shared.

Looking at the 1901 census returns for Connemara/
Joyces' Country, we find an interesting pattern. Quite
generally the first son will be named Thomas (Thomas
Joie, or Joye, was the founder of the family at the
begining of the 14th century; the chiefs of the Joyces
went by the name of "mac Thomas"). The second son was
usually John, followed by Patrick or Martin (the

quite well liked by their tennants,
Sorry Martin, Our Martin Joyce was born in the Allegheny Co., The 1870
Federal Census enumerates him as 8 years old, living with father, Michael
and mother, Mary in Noblestown, S. Fayette Township. I don't believe this is
the same Martin. Thanks, Joan Tierney of Mo.

Charani,
I do not know the answer to your question, but sometimes when I've
researched here in the USA, I've found that a given town changed names and
then later another town in a different location was named that name. Also,
boundaries change over time. Sometimes people here say that they are from a
large, known town when really they are from a small town nearby. It makes it
easier for people who might be unfamiliar with the small towns to know where
in general they were from.
You've probably already co

well. It took me forever to find out which county within the state one of my
ancestors was married in, but I finally did. I hope you are as lucky in
finding out where your ancestor was born.

I appreciate all the information that was sent on the Joyce Family from
Washington and also on James Joyce who was living in Wisconsin prior to his
coming to Washington. What I'm really looking for are the children of James

of James and Mabel I would appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks again for all the help and info.

I've been reading your emails. Do you have your Joyce's definitely in any of the eastern states? I missed the biginning messages.
My Joyce line was first in VA in the 1700's. Then they are found in Rockingham NC. My line moved on to AR by 1850. I think some of the family went into Washington state, but it was probably in the early 1900's.

I am assuming we are looking for James Joyce b 1860 who lived in St. Croix
Wisconsin
According to the 1880 St. Croix Wisonsin Census, we have the following Joyce
families:
John Joyce 60 Ireland, Ireland, Ireland
Margaret Joyce 24 Wisconsin, Ireland, Ireland
Patrick Joyce 22 Wisconsin, Ireland, Ireland
James Joyce 20 Wisconsin, Ireland, Ireland
John Joyce
Pat,
Can you give me any other information such as his children's names. I'll
see what I can find in my file.
Hope I can make a connection for you.
