Hello List,
I'm trying to trace my grandfather, Timothy Kelly, but I'm hampered by
very little information about him. This is what I know:
He was born 1883-1886 in Ireland to M. Kelly (father) and M. S. Kelly
(mother). Sometime between 1898-1920 he immigrated to America via New York
City. He went directly to Minnesota, perhaps because he had family there. He
worked for the railroad at least part of the time and may have worked for the
Oliver Mining Company in Ely, Minnesota. In 1920 he married

I am still trying to find the parents for Lawrence Kelly who was
born about 1740 in Pennsylvania. Lawrence Kelly married Martha Smith on
April 8, 1767 in Pennsylvania. Very likely in Cumberland County or
Lancaster County near Harrisburg. They were married by Rev. John Conrad
Bucher. Tax records show Lawrence & Martha (Smith) Kelly living in
White Deer Township, Northumberland County, PA. in 1775. They remained
living in this area near Milton and Lewisburg Pennsylvania until the
Revolutionary War a

Hello Bob:
Regarding your statement: "Nah: Independence day is all about freedom. Not
about Loyalist Losers!"
I must first point out that today, July 1, 2000, is Canada Day, and not the
Fourth of July. Furthermore although the British lost the Loyalists
[including my G-G-G-Grandfather, Israel TOMPKINS, in what is now Ontario]
moved on and helped to settle and mold the great country of Canada. I count
my Loyalist ancestors as winners not losers because they overcame great

When I do it I look at the back of my hand.
The wrist is the patriarch/matriarch, the first set of knuckles are the
first gen and so - on.
The second set of knuckles are all first cousins, third, second cousins etc
but a second knuckle is first cousin once removed from a first cousin.
I think that's right.
