Looking for any information on Henry Kern and his wife Susannah Allshause. They had a daughter Mary born Oct. 12, 1788 in warren county new jersey. She married Benjamin Crissman Nov. 12, 1812 in Sussex New Jersey.
Basically, Jimmy, you're right.
Kern is from KERNE which is franco/prussian from upper czech from far south/west russian or in that general direction.
Kerne means "center" or "nucleus"
All of us use our name when "centering" or "KERNING" a picture.
(I'm of the Louisiana Kerns)

Yes; please. Thank you. It's nice to meet you, hope to hear from you again. Sincerely, Deb.
Basically, my understanding from my dad's extensive genealogical work as a leading mormon shows:
Kern = Kerne but the second e was dropped in many censuses.
Problem is:
Some census-takers heard a Kern say "kern-uh", wrote Kern (not hearing the second 'e') or misheard and wrote Kerner. Others misheard, particularly those in Louisiana, so it came out Kenner as well.
The name Kern[e] in german means "center" or "nucleus".
You'd use this term, "kerning a picture" or "let's kern the set" to center or straighte

Hi! Just starting my family search. I have a gggrandfather named Joseph Kern. The name Rosa Kern is also in my family. I am from Lancaster Ohio. Joseph Kern had a son by the name of George Kern, my ggrandfather.
Hiram KERN was born in Berks Co. PA. in 1828. His parents were Joseph KERN
and Sarah SWAVLEY KERN. Hiram married Louisa LENTZ in 1851 who was born in
Perry Co., Ohio. They lived in Cardington, Ohio where he died in 1889.
Would any one have connections to this KERN family?
I am researching my mothers side of the family..
She was Emma M Kern 1916-1970, her father Alfred Harrison Kern a policeman in Bethlehem Pennsylvania,1889-1957, married to Edith Schiffert 1888-1969 ; his father Daniel Kern 1850- 1918, who was born in Allentown Pa., married to Mary J Butz 1852-1917
I am looking for info about Daniel's family and ancestors and Alfred's syblings. Any help would be appreciated
