Gary,
I don't think I have any connection to Noah, but here's my Kern line.
My GG-grandmother was Barbara Kern, born 2/15/1817 in Hungary and died
in 5/20/1877 in Neenah, Wisconsin. Her father was Mathias Kern was
born in 1779 (I think), but I don't know where he was born or where he
died. Mathias probably immigrated to the US and died here. Mathias'
father was Andreas Kern. I believe that Mathias and Andreas were
probably from Hungary or possibly Ukraine or Germany. That's about it.
I don't have any info
As you may have noticed if you are on other lists here on the "maiser" list
server, there has been a mail/admin problem on the server and things aren't
working correctly. This means that you may or may not be getting messages,
and possibly getting duplicates of messages. Be patient, Larry Stephens is
working on the problem now and should have it fixed soon.
The problem does affect me a little more as the list owner for this list.
Because of the problem, Larry has not yet been able to correct the

Sorry, but I'm still not sure what's going on with these 8 lists I manage.
I'm trying this one more time before I contact Larry as Maiser to find the
problem.
Thanks for your patience.

BEST WISHES FOR THE NEW YEAR
Hope 1996 went well for everyone on the list. I'm anxiously awaiting the
arrival in just a couple of days of the new year of 1997. Should prove to
be an interesting year in many respects. I really wish the best for you and
yours in all you do for 1997.
The digest version of these lists is currently NOT working. Until you are
notified differently do not try to set yourself up on the digest, you won't
get any mail.
WELCOME MESSAGE
Last time I sent out a message I mentioned
I'd like to remind everyone of the way this list (and all the lists that I
"manage") are set up to reply to messages.
To keep the volume down, although none of these lists are very active, I
have them all set up so that when you reply to a message they reply goes
only to the person who sent the original message. If your answer might be
of general interest to everyone on the list, you need to manually add the
list address to the To or Cc address field.
I've noticed on one list that there apparently have b

I hope all of you are enjoying the last bit of 1996, and wish everyone the
very best for 1997. I just have a couple of things to mention, so this
won't be a long message.
The digest version of these lists is currently NOT working. Until you are

I just sent in a slightly revised welcome message for the list. It should

I realize that our surname lists are not so busy that this will create a
large problem. But, I wanted everyone to be aware of this shut down on the
"maiser" server this evening. The following message is from Larry Stephens
who runs the server for these mail lists. It would appear that mail will be
going down on the surname lists in the next couple of hours and probably not
be back enroute to everyone until late tonight.
Thanks for your patience.
And again, a hearty best wishes to everyone for the holida

You can retrieve archived messages, send:
Mail to: MAISER@rmgate.pop.indiana.edu
Subject: blank (not read by system)
Message body: SEND FILELIST
Then carefully follow the instructions in that file.

Hello Everyone:
Just for clarification: The note I sent about how to get archived messages
was in response to a question from a new subscriber. Because I deemed it to
be of general interest, I sent a copy to all subscribers on the 8 surname
lists I manage.
I DO NOT need anyone to send ME all the messages which have been archived on
the mail lists. I am aware of how to get them if I need them, plus with
very few exceptions, all list mail is on my hard drive or archive diskettes.

Chris,
I think our two Mathias Kerns are different people. Mine wasn't born until
around 1868, probably in Ohio. I've included a more complete 3 generation
report of his family group (he is the last child shown), with the very
limited information I have on the family. This is one of my tough lines and
I'm sure hoping to find more details on this family one of these days. If I
can do anything else for you, let me know.

Christmas is Fast approaching. I hope all of you have told Santa, or his
substitute, what you need for your genealogy present this year.
Just a couple of quick comments.
First, just to reemphasize, the digest function on the maiser surname lists
has been turned off at the server. There are apparently still large
problems with the program Larry Stephens uses, and it has problems with
digests. So, until you hear differently do not use the digest mode on any
of your lists on the maiser server.

I'm forwarding this message to you for your information. Larrys says that
none of the mail lists on the Maiser server will work in digest mode at this
time. Luckily this list isn't so active that you should be overwhelmed with
mail. Please don't try to use the digest mode for the time being.
