I have found a couple of different spellings in my research as well. My
gr-grandmother
was Mary Jane (Kearns) O'Connor. It's spelled this was on her marriage
certificate
and on her death certificate, but on her birth record, it's spelled Carnes.
In researching my family tree I have found many spelling variations, such as
Kern(s), Karns, Karnes, Carnes..... I even found a census transcription where
they had it listed as REINES. (I guess this error was due to the
handwriting). Whenever I post queries, however, I use the KERNS spelling
since this is what has been used for about the last 100 years. So, I think
this is the "right" list for all of us researching this surname. :-) With
this in mind, it's probably time for me to repost my line. I

(about a month now). In November I was in the middle of midterms and
right now I am just starting with finals this Friday. Plus I had to
start a new job because I wasn't making enough money. It's been a
hectic month for me. Things have finally started to settle down and I
will have more time to take care of the lists.
For this week's word of the week, we are doing something that has not
been done for quite a few months. We ha

Sorry for that, but the reason you haven't seen any other spelling
variations posted is because none have posted any. I try to let people
know with other variations about this list, but they just don't join.
It would be a good idea for you and others on this list to a: start

Sorry to send this out to the lists. About a month ago, my server went
bezerk and I lost all my previous messages. I know that at least one
person donated money to Rootsweb on my behalf, maybe more, but I need to
contact them to find out again how much and their names for Rootsweb
since it's time to pay my "dues" to Rootsweb. If you can respond by
this wed. (I will leave then for Christmas break and not return til Jan
3rd), that is great, but that's ok if you can't, just reply by the first

Melanie,
I had a ggg grandmother by the name of Jane KERNS who was supposedly
born in KY in 1775. She married David DEMAREE, Sr. In Shelby Co., KY in
1792 and died in 1847 in Switzerland Co., IN. Do you know if she had any
connection with your Kerns' ? I have no information as to the names of
her parents or siblings.
David and Jane's granddaughter, Mary Allen Demaree, married Edward

apparently changed his name to KERN after her re-marriage - according to our

My ggmother was LOUISA BARBARA KERN, b. 1862 in Trenton NJ. The only clues
to her parents are that they were both born in Germany and her mother might
have been named YOUNG. The family story is that she and her husband went by
covered wagon to Stanton, Nebraska around 1880 where her husband became a
saloon keeper. They later moved to Oakland, California to retire. Anyone
know this KERN?

You got the right list, most people on this list have KERN with no "s",
but this list includes (but not limited to) the variations of Kerns,
kearn, kearns, kearnes, karn, karns, carn, carns, carnes, etc. So you
are in the right place. :)
