I have Kern family in NYC, but they are Irish, not German. Actually, I haven't done any research on them yet..... too many lines, not enough time. ;-) //bruce ---------- From: Elizabeth Todd[SMTP:tish@alaska.net] Sent: Friday, January 16, 1998 2:06 PM To: KERN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Where in the World are these Kern surnames. I have noticed that the Kern name being researched seem to be all in the South. Is there anyone researching for Kern in NYC or Germany? Wonder if I am the only one. Thanks

14. KERN to Ohio about 1817 [1]
Time I renewed info about my wife's family tree. The family name in Loudoun County, VA, was KERN. They lived in the Waterford area and moved to Carroll County, Ohio, about 1817 when and where they received a land grant there from President Monroe. I would assume this was for either Revolutionary War or War of 1812 services, but do not have information about that. In Ohio, the family name KERN changed to KARN and then to KARNS for some reason. Those that went to Ohio were KERN and those born in Ohio
