Well, the Kern name is either Irish, Scottish or Germanic. I think most Kerns originate from Germany. However, the name Kern or Kearn or Curran etc is also Irish... and kern in gaelic, means Irish foot soldier. My husband's father's family came from near Frankfurt, but as many of the Irish emigrated to Germany from the 1600's onward, because of religious persecution by the British, it is not impossible that some of the German Kerns may have Irish roots. Christenez would probably be either Portuguese or (m

Tess, I was very interested in this due to the fact that I cannot find where my Rev John Kerns came from except one census states that he was born 1809 KY. His wife Edna Smith was born 1811 KY but somewhere in the back of my mind it seems I have read Morgantown regarding one or both of them. Do you have these two names anywhere in your researchings? Were the SMITH's involved in any of what you have written of? I realize it is a shot in the dark but I have never been able to find anything on them. Thei
Hi, I just want to let you know my Kern family is very much German. Spoke it

Hi!
I'm looking for information about the town of Freudenberg. I'm hoping
someone has a website that is in english. I've been pouring over the
church records for Freudenberg from the early 1600's onward. I"ve learned
alittle old german in the process, figured out how the names are recorded
and that each recorder did things alittle different, which can be a
blessing or hazardous to your health! :-)
I'm searching out the Kern families. Specifically Dominic Kern who married
Margaret Vaeth. My aunt ha
I'm interested . I can't get back any further than the Rev John
KERN/S who married Edna Smith in southern Indiana prox 1830. According
to the one census I have found he was born 1809 Kentucky & Edna 1811
Kentucky. Their daughter Caroline married Elisha West Sinex (Sr). Any
connections?
Thank you.
