1. Bedel-Beedle?? [1]
I am totally-completely brand new to the idea that my family may have French origins, so I haven't the least clue how to do research on them. My grandfather had always claimed that the name Beedle had originally been French, but my father had pooh-poohed it as being unlikely, as the name "sounded" so British. But I do find that my Beedle family was possibly born in Wisconsin, in the late 1700's ... and Wisconsin was French territory until 1763. I have no clue at this time, when the family did get into No

3. Early PA Rolands [1]
Can anyone help me connect or add to information about the three men described below? All were anabaptist and may have arrived in Pennsylvania from today's Western France during the 1720-1750 period. I am trying to link my Lancaster County ancestor Hans Roland to the known German-speaking, first emigrant male ancestors of other well documented early Pennsylvania Roland lines. So far we have knowledge of 1650-1750 Roland-like names near Munster, Haut-Rhin and Belfort. Many thanks if you have reason

Long ago, I gave Emma Messinger the information about Elisabeth REEB, the daughter of Friedrich Reeb and Louisa Weber. I also have consistently and still do insist that there is too much evidence that Elisabeth Reeb Noesser is the same person as the daughter of Friedrich Reeb and Louisa Weber. Even though the year of birth on tombstone and in death record is one year difference, the day is only one digit different and the month is the same. Not only that but two other daughters of Friedrich Reeb an

Patricia, First off you do not have to apologise to me. Although I started the Keskastel-Alsace Bossue list quite a few years ago which purpose was for the village of Keskastel which did become part of Bas-Rhin, France in 1793 at then end of the French Revolution, the region had been known by different names prior to 1793. This region was once owned by the Counts of Nassau. Nassau is the part of what is now Germany where Weisbaden or Idstein had been capitals. The Counts of Nassau owned this land often re

I am curious about your statement that your paternal great grandmother being born in Alsace-Lorraine then stating that she was listed as born in Belgium. Belgium was not Alsace and Alsace was not Belgium. So I am curious exactly the name of the village, town or city Leonie Lammens was born in? I am the person who first started this list for Keskastel which is a town in what is now the Bas-Rhin department of France. Actually, the name Alsace Bossue simply refers to the western most portion of Bas-Rhin. How
