3. Re: French Basque - Fontan [1]
You should check to see if there is an e-mail list in the area you are looking for. I believe you should be looking in the southern part of France. Keskastel is located in the northeastern part of France. The people there would speak either German or French...not Spanish. Since your husbands family came to New Orleans not too long ago by most standards I suggest that you look at the death records of Louis Fontan or/and his wife, possibly the death record will reveal exactly which town they came fr
4. Re: Introductions [1]

I'm not sure of the area but I was told that Henry came from Germany and ANNE from Alsace-Lorraine but I have no documentation to prove it. They migrated to MISSOURI abt. 1882. If anyone has a connection or might be able to help, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks, Wendy

7. Re: Kornegay [1]
Glitz, Since you say you are lurking, I take it that you don't know the origin place of your name. Since you are lurking here, I suggest that you might give some information about your name to the list. This list is not very old and does not have very many subscribers at this time. As I said it was set up for people who have ancestry in the area of Keskastel or any of the other villages in the area west of the Vosges Mountains in France. Do you know the etnicity of your sur-name? Was it German?
8. Re: Stadel Strasbourg & Moyenmoutier [1]
I am sorry to inform you that neither Strasbourg or Moyenmoutier are located in the area which is called Alsace-Bossue. Strasbourg is in Alsace proper and Moyenmoutier is too far south to be considered part of Alsace-Bossue. I believe it is in either Moselle or Meurthe-et-Moselle. That would place it in what was called Lorraine. John V. Reeb

Please unsubscribe! I don't believe that I belong on this list, I have been reading the posts, and my ancestor, Charles REINBOLT b.1861, in either the Alsace or Alsace-Lorraine region. ( Within the past few months, I have come across the surname in Bas-Rhin, Vosges, Muerthe de Moselle, but since I am unable to find a village for him it will be useless to stay on this list. Hi, My name is Doris and I am researching my husband's family on the paternal side. His grandfather was Frederick Fandal and came from somehwere in Germany; we think possibly from the Dusseldorf area but can't pinpoint it. His grandmother was Anna Marie (Maria Anna) Schmidt and is supposed to have come from an area in Northern France or Southern Germany. Both came to the U. S. in the mid 1800's. Schmidt is a difficult name to research but she had an identical twin sister and I am hoping that will eventu
