My name is Barbara Weir and I live in suburban Philadelphia, PA.
I have in my possession a military discharge paper dated 1865 for a Michael
Klein born 2 September 1830 in Hattmatt, Canton of Saverne ,Bas Rhin. He
was the son of Jacque and Catherine (Fatre) Klein.
I believe he may be the uncle of my ancestor Jean (John) Klein who arrived
in St. Louis Missouri in the late 1880's.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone whose family came to St. Louis from
Hattmatt or who knows anything about this Klein fa
The names above those I have been able to uncover so far..Sometimes they
are listed as from France---(Alsace) and sometimes Bavaria...I hope
someone can help me ...I know they were a tight knit family---there is
no one I can ask any questions of....they emigrated about 1865
to NYC.
I would appreciate any help or suggestions.

Hi,
I have been reading posts to the Keskastel-Alsace-Bossue list and hope
someone can help me locate the town or area where my family originated. My
relatives, Henry and Magdalana KELLER came to the United States from
Alsace-Lorraine in 1830. With them was their son, Martin, born in
Alsace-Lorraine on December 25, 1817. They traveled with their good friend
Jacob ZIMMERMAN born in Alsace, France, June 18, 1812. They traveled down the
Erie Canal together in June 1830 and purchased property July 1
This message is for John Reeb, but I thought maybe others on the list would
be interested in the answer.
In July of last year, you posted a list of Alsace-Bossue surnames to this
list and mentioned that they appeared in the book ALSACE BOSSUE. Do you
know who the author is? I would be interested in trying to get the book in
on InterLibrary Loan.
Thank you,
Judie
Judie,
The book was written by Alain Lieb and Theodore Rieger and published in Illkirch, France in 1989. The full title is:Alsace Bossue, Histoire Des Lieux Et Des Hommes Art Et Architecture. Robert can tell us if I am mistaken but I think that translates roughly to Hunchback Alsace, History of the Men Art and Architecture.
I doubt that you will be able to get it on innerlibrary loan, since it is not well known in the United States and I understand it is now very difficult to get a copy in France. The
Please take me of the mail list but I will be returning. Thanks.

I joined this list recently after a list of surnames from Alsace-Bossue had
been
posted to another list. Included was HAURI. I did some research to figure
out exactly where Bossue was without success, so was glad when that
information was posted and I could located it on the maps.
My Hauri family originated in Hirschal, Aargau, Switzerland. They were
Mennonites
that were expelled about 1707. Records are scanty, but it appears some went
to southern Germany and there are stories of some going to Alsace-L
Dear Robert,
I'm pleased to see that you have Quirin listed in your ancestry. When I view your website, I note that Eva Salomea married Johann Nicolaus Reeb 1798. This couple is my 4th great grandparents. Are they direct ancestors of you, also, Robert?
I will look forward to hearing from you. Please refer to my post of yesterday. My grandfather, George K. Reeb immigrated from Keskastel in 1903.
Thank you. Gail in Nebraska, USA

"Alsace bossue" refers to a characteristic of the region of Alsace and
"bossue" has never been a region. Alsace bossue is
Dear Keskastel-Alsace-Bossue mailing list:
My grandfather, George REEB, was born in Keskastel on May 6, 1885. He emigrated to the United States leaving Havre, Germany, on June 13, 1903 on the ship, La Gasgow, and arrived in N.Y., N.Y. on June 21, 1903 (information taken from his Naturalization).
In America he took the middle initial "K", because there were three George REEBS in Polk Co., NE.
I know his mother was Katharine REEB (born Oct. 30, 1863 and died around Dec. 1946). Her parents were Johann Fri

The family names I came across in my own research are :
Dehlingen: GEBHARDT, KELLER, KOEPPEL, WEINSTEIN, WEYLAND
Diemeringen: BRAUN, FEICHTNER, HAENEL, KOEPPEL, WEYLAND
Domfessel: KELLER, MAUGLER, QUIRIN

I want to make a suggestion to members of this list. Although this list was designed basically for Keskastel...and it's surrounding area, the overwhelming majority of posters to this list have been from Americans who obviously have not yet found their ancestry in Europe, therefore don't know where to look etc. That is understandable. However, in order to get any real helpful responses to your queries you should be willing to divulge a few details about your ancestry. My experiences is that I find that ther
