My grandfather, William John Fugard was born in Co. Armagh, Ireland in
1870 and was the son on John and grandson of Robert Fugard.
Upon coming to the US in 1890, he changed the family name to Feugarde.
My mother told me that he spoke French, the name means "fire guard" in
French, and that her father was descended from French Huguenots.
I have been advised that both spellings of FUGARD & FEUGARD(no e) were
in France in the 1700's and 1800's. How can I find them if I do not
know what region of France they
