Much has been written and said concerning the origins of the Keys family in
the Irvinestown area of County Fermanagh. While the early evidence of the
Keys surname in Fermanagh allows us to establish an approximate time of
arrival of the first bearer of the name in the region, it unfortunately says
little about how he came to Fermanagh. A Robert Keys appears to have been
residing in Enniskillen from about 1700, his first documented child being
born in 1708. The first documented Keys to appear in the Ir
Hi Roy,
In answer to your database request of Key(e)s Family, please do add my name
to your list.
It would seem that my Keyes family likely originated in Kilkenny - and the
early documents move between spelling the family name as Keays or as Keys .
My great-great grandfather, Patrick (Patt) Keays immigrated to Canada about
1825. He was married to Honora Phelan.
About 1850, the spelling of the name in Church records seemed to finally be
commonly recorded as Keyes.
After arriving in Montrea
Per the KEYES Genealogy Samuel was married to Susan Bannister. Samuel's
parents are Seth KEYES who died in 1818 and Esther MORGAN (abt 1780-11 Feb
1849). His parents are Samuel KEYES and Alexa. No prior generations were
given.

I am trying to establish a database of all Key(e)s families with origins in

Please get in touch if you have any info you may wish to pass on to me. I
also encourage those of you who are unable to make connections to other
branches to join the Key (and Variants) Surname DNA project at

Hope someone can help me with my Keyes Grandfather. James A. Keyes
married Eliza Ervin about 1901 and had 4 children. They broke up for
some reason about 1912 and my grandmother Eliza lived with my
greatgrandmother Elizabeth Ervin in West Philadelphia. The only thing I
have on my family is my mothers birth certificate which lists her
address at that time as 3522 Mt. Vernon St. Phila Pa. I know nothing of
