7. Need help with finding information TRACY (TRACEY) [0.987421]
Hello group, I have just (exactly 2 seconds ago) found out some more information on my Dennis TRACY (TRACEY) from Kilkenny. I have now learned his father was named John and on an imigration form it was spelled TRACEY, and that he was from parish Tibrone and village or town Tibrone. Now the questions, what records of any kind can be found of parish Tibrone? Where it is exactly located? Also how far back can I find information there? My 3rd greatgrandfather Dennis migrated around 1816 to the US then up
8. Haggard: Re: QUINN's in Kilkenny [0.987421]
Bob & Terri , There is a Haggard :-) Two of them........ Haggard in Ida (Barony) parish of Kilmekevogue, Waterford Poor Law union Haggard in Kells (Barony) Parish of Kilree Callan Poor Law Union. So - I'd say you have the right Quinns listed here in this - the four Michael's in Kells Parish - the civil parish of Kilree lies right beside the civil parish of Kells. 11. Philip's appeal [0.987421]
Fellow Listers, Yesterday I sent out an appeal to a number of the Irish Lists for any references to the surname BANFIELD, BANFIL, BANSFIELD, BENFIELD, BONFIELD BEANFIELD, and as Carol Jones in Wales pointed out 'why not BRANSFIELD'. Also, as other listers suggested, I may need to include BANVILLE and BONVILLE in that list to. Today I feel like the fellow who woke up during his own wake, totally amazed at the amount of people who had showed up. I am genuinely caught for words at the response which I have
12. Methodist churches in Kilkenny [0.987421]

14. Do you live in or near Gowran? [0.987421]
I am researching my Agar roots and have come across some information that I did not know when I was in Gowran a couple of years ago. Apparently Mary Agar married a Timmins and was living in Gowran in 1811. Are you able to check the St Mary's Churchyard for me to see whether there are any Timmins buried there. Unfortunately I don't know her husband's name. Any information on this family would be very much appreciated. I doubt whether she is in the "Agar Vault" . . . as no mention is made in the book of t
15. Re: KILKENNY-D Digest V00 #225 [0.987421]
Hello. Re: your Quinn relative, just in case any names fit, my great grandmother was Mary Quinn (b. 1813)from Kilkenny, possibly Pulrone. Her known siblings were: Julia Quinn(b. 1824), Annie Quinn (b. 1832), and James (b. ????). There of course may have been more. The parents were Thomas Quinn and Mary Tobin. They immigrated to Boston and eventually to MN. I know the three daughters came to the US but James stayed in Ireland and his son William Patrick Quinn (b. 1876) came to the US in 1901. Good lu

19. Education [0.987421]
Hello all I was very interested to read Jane's item about education and schools, as my great-grandfather Daniel MURRAY is described on my grandmother's birth entry of 1881 as National Teacher, of Curraghlane Upper. My Irish research has been at a standstill for some time now, but as this subject has come up, I wonder if there is an address I could write to, to obtain details about Daniel? Was he required to have a certificate of some sort, or be registered as a teacher? I would be grateful for any assis
20. Re: Methodist churches in Kilkenny [0.987421]
Dear Sandra, My ancestor, Richard Dreaper (1780-1847) married Anne Tracey(1791-?1860) in c. 1800 in St. Mary's Church of Ireland, in Castlecomer. They migrated to Kingston, Canada in 1819 with son Richard (1806-1880) and daughter, Mary (1809-?)I suspect your Tracey and mine are connected. There were many Traceys in Carlow, quite near Castlecomer. I would be most interested in Tracey ancestors. 22. Re:Tracey, Tibrone [0.987421]
Are you sure of the spelling of Tibrone? Is it handwritten--could the letters be read differently? I cannot find Tibrone in either County Kilkenny or in any of my listings of the parishes in all of Ireland. However, I did find a Tibohine in County Roscommon. Email me dbfx@home.com if you have questions (I think we corresponded about the Tracey surname previously). Debbie
23. Did you know...... [0.987421]
There is a legend which says since Satan was once an angel he cannot be wholly excluded from Christian places of worship or graveyards, but is only allowed on the north side Men and boys were once employed to go up of churche towers and shout, making a lot of noise to drive him away. In time this system was found both troublesome and costly so stone heads with open mouths were used instead. Such heads are often found on church towers or old castles so they were evidently considered effective in keeping the

Marie, Ballyfoyle is a town and an area a few miles north of Kilkenny City - the name means Town of the Hollow. I believe it is within the Catholic parish of Muckalee. By area, I mean that it is an area administered to by the present church of Ballyfoyle. The Ballyfoyle area includes such townlands as Leapstown (where my Jackmans are from), Kocknew, Bullock Hill, Ruthstown, Kilmadum Corbetstown, etc. Dunmore Cave is located this area.
