Don't know if any of this will help. It might be a good idea to e-mail
ahead of time to see what resources they have. The Winfield Library has
a small genealogy section. Of course local government would be closed on
a Saturday afternoon. If you have relatives buried in Highland Cem. on
the south edge of Winfield, the caretaker there was a great help to me
in 2003. He laid a plot map on his hood in very windy day and looked up
every single grave I was looking for. And I had a bunch. He didn't even
Hello
I'm looking for the obit on Gladys Mae POWERS/KEMPTON/SHIPP. She was born 19 Sep 1905 in Kansas and died 14 Oct 1974. She is buried in Grand Prairie Cemetery in Burden, Cowley, KS. At the time of her death she lived with her second husband Charles W. SHIPP in Cowley County. (Winfield, I think)
Also I'd like to find Donald R. KEMPTON and Vi Ann MYERS KEMPTON obits. They both lived in Winfield most of my life. Donald passed away 4 Aug 1993 and Vi Ann passed away 17 Jun 1996. They are b

List,
I'm looking for information on Susie (McQueen/ Parr) HAMLIN. Susan/Susie was born approximately 1864 in Missouri. She was adopted during or shortly after the civil war by William & Eliza PARR. The Parr family, with Susie, is listed in the 1880 census in Cowley Co., Kansas. Suzie married Samuel Silas HAMLIN and three known children were born to this couple in Cowley Co.;William Earl Hamlin b 11 May 1887; Claude Hamlin b 14 Jun 1888; & Vera Alta (Hamlin) Eagan b.18 Dec 1889. After the death of Susie,
The clerk's office in Winfield has 3x5 card file of burials at Union
Cemetery and perhaps the other cemeteries as well.
Another possible resource is the Dawson Monument Company (1317 Main
Street, Winfield, KS 67156) which has been in business since 1880, doing
cemetery stones for the area. I haven't used them for research, but
would guess they might have files going back quite aways.

Ellen Knowles Bisson
I'd be grateful for precise death dates and cemetery information for
George B. Mitchell, born November 1854 IN, and his wife Jennie Mitchell,
born December 1861 IN. They lived in Arkansas City.
George died 1920-1930. Jennie died at some point after the 1930 census.
Many thanks for your help, and best wishes to you.

For all of the ones that you are looking for you would receive COPIES of the obits. From 1986 to the present time you would receive text versions of the obits.

I don't know how far back you are needing to go or
which area but the Winfield library not only has lists
of burials in several cemeteries, they also have city
directories for several years past.
