Mrs. Jas. SLATTERY and Jospehine Slattery went to Topeka, Friday to visit the latter's mother, Mrs. Minnie Slattery, who is employed by the State House, and to see Mrs. COAKLEY, who is still in a critical condition from a paralytic stroke.
Clyde MILLER of the 101 Ranch of Bliss, Okla., is in Mayetta for two weeks taking a degree in the Masonic Lodge.

Miss Nell WEBSTER, who was operated on in St. Francis hospital at Topeka last Friday is getting along splendidly. While the operation proved a serious one, no bad effects have followed, and the patient's recovery is rapid. Mrs. Webster is still with her daughter at the hospital. --Holton Recorder.

Catherine HAINLIN was born in Buckham county, Mo., April 27, 1847, and died at the home of her daughter in Soldier, Kan., Feb. 19, 1915. when eight years of age she came to Jackson county and has made this her home since that time. On June 8, 1873, she was united in marriage to James PENRY. Her children that are left to mourn her loss are Mrs. J.A. Mr. and Mrs. Ed POOLER, Mr. and Mrs. Al POOLER and Mrs. Harry FITZSIMMONS went to Topeka Saturday to attend the funeral of Albert H. SHOAF which took place Sunday. Mr. Shoaf was a brother-in-law of Ed and Frank Pooler and has been an employee of the U.S. mail service several years.

Mrs. R.L. MILLER and daughter, Ethel, were in Holton Friday.
A peach was brought to this office this week by J.H. HUNTER, but grown in R.L. MILLER's orchard, which weighed 12 ounces and measured nearly 11 1/2 inches round. Next?

Sarah Janes SCHOLES was born in Ashland County, Ohio, May 14, 1848(1843?), and died at her home in Mayetta, Kansas, March 3, 1915, aged 66 years, 5 months and 18 days. She was married to J.W. BOLING, September 5, 1878. Four children were born to this union, T.F. Boling, Topeka, Alice PIERCE, Lucy R. POOLER, and Blanch E. SHUMWAY, of Mayetta, all of whom survive their mother together with eleven grandchildren.

School closed Friday with Miss Buelah HITTLE, teacher. There was a program and spelling contest. Those who received prizes in spelling for the most head marks were: First grade, Ruth ROBSON; second grade, Lula JONES; third grade, Sarah JONES; fourth grade, Lucille JONES; five and sixth grades, Nellie JAMES; seventh and nineth, Alice SMITH. After the program Viola HEISELMAN took a photograph of those present.

Mrs. Mary ELLIOTT died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Everett MARTIN, Monday, Feb. 22. She was well along in years and her death was not unexpected. She was the second wife of Steven Elliott, deceased.

School House Burns.
The school house in the Point Pleasant district caught fire last Wednesday morning, before school time, from burning coals falling on the floor from the stove. When the teacher arived and spread the alarm the fire had gained such headway that it could bot be controlled.

Death of Mrs. Thos. Nugent.
Mrs. Thos. NUGENT, who had lived about four miles west of Holton died last Sunday about 1 o'clock. Funeral services were held at St. Dominics church in Holton at 10:30 last Monday and the remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery west of Holton. Mrs. Nugent had undergon an operation about eighteen months before, since which time her health had been fairly good until she took down sick abotu a week before her death.

The following pupils that took the recent county examinations for dipolmas received their grades Saturday. We think Miss STADEL should feel proud that all of her pupils passed. Nancy BRENNEMAN was born April 6, 1847, in Blair county, Penn., and departed this life, at Mayetta, Kansas, December 20, 1915, aged 68 years, 8 months and 14 days.

Holton.--William Edgar BOHANNON, 75, Holton, died Wednesday evening at a nursing home here after a brief illness.
He was born June 22, 1890 at Holton and had lived in the Holton and Soldier communities all his life. He was a member of Holton Christian Church.

Miss Cora NISSELLY and Lee GOODREL were married Wednesday February 24. It was kept a secret from their friends til Thursday. The bride is a daughter of S.S. Nisselly. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Goodrel. He is employed in his brother-in-law's store at Birmingham.

Last Wednesday being Miss Marie FRAZIER's fourteenth birthday, a number of her friends, schoolmates and teacher gathered at her home and spent the evening playing games. After a nice lunch they departed for their home wishing Miss Marie many more happy birthdays. She received several nice presents. (Elm Creek.)

Mary DOUGLAS was born September 20,1825, in Ritchie county, Va. Died near Denison, Kansas, July 10, 1915, aged 87 years, 9 months and 20 days.
Her parents were William and Eleanor Douglas. She grew to womanhood there and was united in marriage with Adam ROBSON, August 15, 1854, and with him removed to Missouri in 1864, from thence to Kansas in 1882.
To this union were born four sons, and three daughters, all of whom are living except a son, who died

Holton.--Mrs. Jennie Louise CARPENTER, 82, died Friday at her home here after a long illness.

Miss Margaret WHITE, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed White was married to Mr. Lewis BOLZ, at Topeka, Wednesday, March 24. Mr. Bolz is the son of Frank Bolz and is an industrious young farmer. Both are well known by their many friends as bright, progessive young people. They cherish a wide acquaintance, having lived on farms east of Mayetta most of their lives, who wish them a happy married life.
