Wow!!! Thanks so much! This is my g-g-grandmother, I knew that most of the
children of Margaret had moved to West Virginia, I had no idea Margaret had
moved there or died there... I would never have found her! Thanks for the
post!'

I came across this, yesterday, and thought others might be interested.
I've seen this book at the Kentucky Historical Society. I know that
they have even earlier Gazetter & Business Directories there, but they
are in the rare book room and you must make an appointment to see them.
I don't think they make appointments for Saturdays.

This is in reference to Barbara Ingram's query on the SPENCER line. This, too,

I have two questions about slaves and free blacks in early Bath Co. KY.
#1 What exactly was the definition of these terms at that time? I am
confused because in the 1820 Bath census one of my ancestors is listed as
having in his household 0 slaves and 3 free black females (he apparently had
free black males too but I failed to record that). Yet in his will written
in 1830 he directs that one black female is "to be free" at his death. The
other black adults, male and female, are to be "hired out from year

Hello,
I am researching the surname PERGRAM and its variants, such as PERGREM,
PERGRIM, PERGRIN, PERGRAIN, PIRGIN, PUGRIN, PURGAM, etc. If you have *ANYONE*
in your records with a similar surname, whether they are related to you or
not, *PLEASE* contact me at the address below.
Many individuals can be traced back to Bath County, Kentucky and are
descendants of James Enoch PERGREM, b. 17 Feb 1777, most likely in

Can someone please tell me where I would locate
"Old Ironworks Road" and what it would be called today?
Also does anyone know which creek was called either
Pheasant or Peasant creek or where that would be located
in Bath County.
Thank you.

Also in this same article, I see that many of the Kincaid families who

Linda,
I do not know about the 1st part of your question but the Logans I may be able
to help you with. The Logans lived near Morehead. There was an article in the
1887 Menifee Co Paper about a group of lawmen going to their home and killing
several of them. The article was put in the paper by a man named Clarke who
was trying to explain how his son got with this group of law men and saying
his son had not killed or wounded any of the Logans. (Sounded like a father
afraid the Logans would come after his so
