7. [KYBATH-L] Kentucky's 1879 State Gazetteer-Owingsville [1]
I came across this, yesterday, and thought others might be interested. I've seen this book at the Kentucky Historical Society. I know that they have even earlier Gazetter & Business Directories there, but they are in the rare book room and you must make an appointment to see them. I don't think they make appointments for Saturdays. >From Kentucky's 1879 State Gazetteer reprinted in _The Kentucky Explorer_ June 1997, pg. 54 Owingsville The county seat of Bath, 14 miles northeast of Mt. 8. [KYBATH-L] SPENCER [1]
This is in reference to Barbara Ingram's query on the SPENCER line. This, too, is my family through RICHARD SPENCER. ANN SPENCER was the second wife of AARON WILLIAMS. In fact, the Obit that appeared just a few days ago on Martha Shultz, age 81, who died July 17, 1924, was the oldest daughter of Ann Spencer and Aaron Williams. The names, "Bud" and "Cugg" sound like nicknames and could apply to two brothers you have probably already listed, perhaps James and Alexander. Since we know Alexander was still

13. [KYBATH-L] Slaves vs. free blacks in early Bath Co. KY [1]
I have two questions about slaves and free blacks in early Bath Co. KY. #1 What exactly was the definition of these terms at that time? I am confused because in the 1820 Bath census one of my ancestors is listed as having in his household 0 slaves and 3 free black females (he apparently had free black males too but I failed to record that). Yet in his will written in 1830 he directs that one black female is "to be free" at his death. The other black adults, male and female, are to be "hired out from year

22. Re: [KYBATH-L] Early Bath/Montgomery County Marriages [1]
In Deep Roots (Yes I know this book is not totally accurate, but it does provide good clues) written by Sally Lathrum Hines, p. 25 It says Thomas kincaid and Abigail Irons were married in the Old Springfield Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, now Bath co. Ky. September 21, 1802 by the Reverend Joseph Price Howe. Also in this same article, I see that many of the Kincaid families who remained in Kentucky later became members of the Christian Church under the preaching of Barton W. Stone and Alexander Campbe

Linda, I do not know about the 1st part of your question but the Logans I may be able to help you with. The Logans lived near Morehead. There was an article in the 1887 Menifee Co Paper about a group of lawmen going to their home and killing several of them. The article was put in the paper by a man named Clarke who was trying to explain how his son got with this group of law men and saying his son had not killed or wounded any of the Logans. (Sounded like a father afraid the Logans would come after his so
