1. Wilder/Miracle [1]
Still trying to connect elusive Mack Wilder/Jane Miracle to one of the Bell County or Harlan Co. Wilder and Miracle families. Mack & Jane had a son Walter William (sometimes aka William Walter) who was born in 1884 in Pineville. I know that Walter was related to the Slusher family (mentions cousins 'R. & John Slusher) and that his uncle was "J.A. Miracle". In 1919 Mack Wilder moved to Tennessee (Jane is apparently deceased at this point as Walter doesn't mention in notes that she is living or is als

5. Re: [KYBELL] Yellow Creek [1]
At one time the Middlesboro area was called Yellow Creek. This is the name known to the early settlers that arrived there shortly after the Daniel Boone Wilderness Road became open. This name continued until Middlesboro was built and named after the English in the 1890's. The stream originates in the Cumberland Mountains and other nearby mountains surrounding Middlesboro. The Yellow Creek Elementary School is still a reminder of this stream. Middlesboro is located in the Cumberland Valley water s

8. Re: [KYBELL] Yellow Creek [1]
RESPONSE: I never lived in Bell Co., KY but every year when I was small (prior to 1954) we visited my grandpa, Garrett TAYLOR, and we had to cross this old wooden bridge over this creek to get up the hill and back to where his home was. The bridge is now long gone and when I was there in 2000 to visit my grandparents' graves which were on his property, we had to cross Yellow Creek in a 4-wheel truck . I have always heard that creek referred to as Yellow Creek. So, I would think it is Bell Co.

Hi All, Yellow Creek is in Bell Co. because I used to swim in it at Wells Camp. People used to build their outhouses by the side of it, and no telling what you might see as we swam, butt naked, at the Rock Wall there. The name of the town was called Yellow Creek before it became Middlesboro. My ancestors, the Browning's are long time decendants of the area. My father Ted Browning was born there, and so was I, in 1937. We moved to California in 1946. I still have relatives there, aunts uncles and cousins.
17. County Map of 1840 showing the lines of Knox and Harlan, parents of Bell county. [1]
Here is a link to a map showing the counties of Kentucky for 1840, the year in question. As you can see, the line forming Knox and Harlan was a vertical line going straight for the Cumberland Gap area. Depending on where you lived at that time would decide what county you were in. It appears that Yellow Creek, or that area now called Middlesboro, was on the Knox County side of the line. http://home.hiwaay.net/~givensod/giv40ky.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ken Maggard"
