Hi everyone,
Just letting y'all know that I'm headed up to Madison, Estill & Jackson
Counties tomorrow. Will be back Wednesday night. Will hopefully return
with some good pictures of the area.
If there's a problem with the list or the pages, just drop me a private note
and I'll take care of it when I get back.
Have a good one.

One of the big SCSI hard drives in RootsWeb's main Web server is
failing.
I'm running backups now, and I hope I can get a current tape made
before the drive fails entirely.
I have a spare drive ready on the shelf, and if all goes well I'll
be installing it this afternoon. There will probably be some
annoying side-effects associated with the move to the new drive, but
I'm hoping we'll be back to fully

Can anyone tell me if Daniel Sparks, b ca 1854 in Estill or Jackson, the s/o John G. Sparks and Mary Jane Murphy married Elizabeth "Bets" Cox in 1880, Jackson County OR was he one who married 1st Ellen Prichett in 1876, 2nd Armilda Richardson in 1885, both in Estill ? Are their two Daniels born ca 1854? Any help in straightening this appreciated.

Jen,
I had that Daniel married Elizabeth Cox also, but I have been talking to a lady who says she has a letter from a Everett Sparks who married Alma White, a d/o Butler White, and she says he states he is the s/o Daniel Breck Sparks and Armelda Richardson and the grandson of John G. Sparks. The letter is in a different state from her and I have not seen it. If we are correct, who is the other Daniel Sparks?

Hi everyone,
My personal website has changed just a bit. The new one is in my signature.
If you've got a link to it or bookmarked the old one, please make a note of
it.
For those of you who haven't been there yet, I've got my database of over
3,300 people online. If you're researching in the Eastern/Central area of
Kentucky (Madison, Estill, Jackson, Rockcastle & surrounding counties), take
a look. If you find something there you can use, go ahead. I don't have
sources online due to space limitations.

According to my information (came from Sparks Family Quarterly), this

Hi everyone,
If you have relatives who worked for the L&N Railroad, Eastern Divison,
during the first 50 years of the century, point your browsers to

Thanks to Norwood Thorpe, a member of the Estill Co. Historical &
Genealogical Society, we now have roster records of the Eastern Division of
the L&N Railroad which was headquartered in Ravenna, KY. I'm still uploading
files for to this area, but feel free to look around.
There are records for the entire Ea
Hi everyone,
Well, the latest trouble at Rootsweb seems to be on the mend. They had some
severe hardward trouble on their end and, as a result, pages were down and
there was trouble with some of the mailing lists.
This is from Dr. B. at Rootsweb:

Hi guys,
This came through on the KYResearch mailing list and if you're not a member,
I strongly urge you to. Sandi Gorin shares researching techniques for
Kentucky with some being applicable to other locations. She also discusses
available records, old trails, forts and settlements, history of towns,
determining wife's names and other clues from the old County papers, medical
and legal terms of the older days, etc. Participation by the subscribers is
welcome if it applies to researching. No queries are a
Hi guys -
FYI --
Rootsweb has installed a SmartList hack that actually blocks file
attachments
(including VCARDS), HTML messages and enriched text postings. It will
be
important for subscribers to know how their mail programs work and if
they embed
attachments (such as "business that typically have names like

When a poster sends a message to a mailing list written in HTML, or
with a
non-plain-text attached file, the list server will send the poster's
message
back to them, with
