My friends -
I write this in haste to let you know that there will be no data post
today. I received a call a short time ago from an individual with whom I
have been working on some biographical material on the Skaggs family of
Calloway County(from which I descend). He is preparing a written piece
connected with this work, and found, just a few hours before the deadline
for submitting the text, that he was missing some crucial biographical data
on several individuals. I am currently trying to get tha

Thanks.

While searching deeds relating to Hazard Thompson's estate in McCracken

of Commissioners division of lands, pgs 54-60." (Graves Co.)
Note that although the subject properties were almost entirely in
McCracken Co. in the New Hope area, this report/commission was

Seeking information on Franklin P. Whitford / Eggner of Marshall County, Kentucky. I have read the sketch of Milton Eggner in the Marshall County family history book, but it does not give the name of Franklin's father. On 1860 Federal Census for Marshall County, Franklin is listed as Franklin Eggner, age 16, birthplace Kentucky, and living in the home of his mother Sarah and stepfather Milton Eggner. On the 1850 Federal Census for Marshall County, Franklin is listed as Franklin Whitford, age 5, birthplac

I am dropping by to let everyone know that I have now completed the
digitization of pages 300-325 in Graves County Order Book G, and they are
ready for distribution.
Here, again, as a recap, are the guidelines for requesting the individual
images of the pages:
1)No more than 5 requests for page images per segment (a "segment" is a 25
page group, such as 300-325)
2)Please do not request page numbers higher than 325 - they are *not*
digitized yet
3)Using the Subject line of "GCOBG Image

Geoff, why don't you contact Joyce Hornback joyce1033@juno.com? She did a book on the Bowdens some years back. I furnished some of the information on the Bowdens in this area so it's quite possible the person you are looking for is in this book.

Today we are returning to McCracken County to continue our review of the
Vital Statistics birth records in the 1852 - 1860 time frame.
Subscribers to the JP List can obtain the full dataset for a birth shown in
the listing below(which usually includes the date of birth, gender of the
child if not obvious, and the name of the father and maiden name of the
mother) by sending a request to me. As always, please refrain from
resending this entire message back to me with the request. As I note

Thursdays are the day on which I normally post items concerning
terminology, JP biographies, etc.
I ran across several web pages from a genealogy source that I found to be
interesting, so I am passing those along to you for your review. Some of it
is fairly elementary, but I found it to be worthwhile reading.

Sometime during the month of June 1899, GEORGE THOMAS CLARK, born 1879,
and his father, JAMES THOMAS CLARK, known as Tommy, born 1854, were
hoeing tobacco in one of their fields in Carlisle County, Kentucky.
There had been feuds, picking, and bullying of James Thomas Clark by a
neighbor, CALVIN LUTHER FURLONG for some time. James Clark became very
tired and weary of these confrontations and one day as he and his son
George Clark were working in their tobacco field, when they noticed

As we begin another week, we are returning to Marshall County to continue
our review of the Vital Statistics birth records for that County in the
year 1861.
Before moving to that area, however, I need to take a moment to reiterate
our need to remain focused and on-topic on the JP List. Our "mission" is
the study and discussion of the history and genealogy of the families of
the 8 counties of the Jackson Purchase region of KY. Postings which are not
relevant to that subject area, or whic

I noticed an inquiry about the BLM website which appeared on the List, and
I'll update you about that situation briefly.
The BLM site was taken down some time ago as ordered by a federal court
judge, due to a pending lawsuit involving some Native American lands. The
BLM has now received sanction to restore the site, but it very likely will
not be as comprehensive as it was before, at least for awhile. At the
moment, they are having technical difficulties, as I understand it, and do

Hello List, Is anyone out there besides me having trouble with the BLM?
When I try to use their search engine, it just sits and spins. Eventually,
you get a server busy message. This has been happening all day today.

Hello Listers,
I am trying to trace my grandmothers whereabouts in 1920. She and my
grandfather, Walter Henry Pace, had separated sometime before then. Would
someone who has access to the Kentucky (Calloway, Graves, or Marshall
Counties) do a look up for me? Thanks.

It has been awhile since I have had an offering on a land grants file, so I
am dropping by today to let you know that I have another segment in our
continuing series of JP land grants files ready for distribution.
This file is another segment in the process of filling in some blanks that
have been omitted from earlier files. This file covers more of the surnames
which begin with the letter "M". Specifically, the surnames included in
this file are: Muller, Murrell, Murchell, Murry, Mulhen

Although I am not yet aware of where the problem lies, I do know that I am
receiving over 100 "bounces" for each message that is currently being sent
to the JP List, which leads me to believe that there is a hub failure
somewhere. All yahoo, apex, juno, hotmail and several other ISP addresses
are bouncing. I do not know if or when you will receive this, but, rather
than send out a data post that may not make it through to everyone, I will
forego today's data post until we see the 'Net fu
